Maleagant was pacing trough the camp when Roose Stark returned with his soldiers. The young wolf had wanted to attack the flank of the rebels, but appearantly the rebels had attacked him first. Roose had made a tactical retreat, and was now deploying his full force. Maleagant called ser Dwayne with him and gave him some last instructions, before he went away with Berenger and Beringar. The moment he had arrived at the camp, he had searched for a decent location to view the battle from. He took his position at the hill, with a dozen messengers ready to deliver his orders.
He was just at the top of the hill when, to his great surprise, he already saw the rebels coming over the bridge in the distance. No good, to soon, the young wolf is still deploying his forces. He gave a cry of dismay before sending a messenger to the camp, urging them to make haste. And then the rebels attacked, flooding the half-prepared camp with men and steel. The northern army took great losses, as Maleagant had expected. He was glad to see his own troops making a stand though, with ser Dwayne waving his warhammer around like a madman, felling foes left and right. He could see the young wolf fighting to, and he saw him cut down an attacker.
No glory in killing a man who only has a staff to defend himself, but it is truly a fine sword he has.
Though many men fell before the knight and his warhammer, Maleagant wasn't impressed by ser Dwayne. "No good," he said, speaking to himself, "the man is using his rage instead of his head. He is going to deep in the enemy's rank, if this goes on he'll be..."
Isolated, Maleagant wanted to say, but it actually happened before the words where out of his mouth. Ser Dwayne drove deep into the rebel army, ignoring his men, and getting isolated in the process. Maleagant cursed, and send a messenger ordering ser Dwayne to fall back and regroup. And he cursed even louder when a stray arrow pierced the throath of the messenger, before he could reach ser Dwayne's men.
Bah, couldn't the idiot have worn a gorget?
But meanwhile, the young lord was starting to get his lines in order for a special move.
As ser Dwayne fought himself free, the Stark soldiers pulled back, as if to retreat. Intent on killing Roose the rebels followed, though with more caution.
Good, follow, get lured in.
Maleagant saw an opening and send a messenger to ser Dwayne, who attacked the rebels in the flank, the moment he had regrouped.
Then, everything seemed to go wrong. Roose Stark had tried to feign a retreat to lure the rebels in, but the enemy was fiercer than they had expected, and soon enough men where actually running for their lives, instead of just pretending. The rebels seemed to overwhelm them, and Maleagant held his breath when he saw Roose Stark's horse being speared, and the young lord went flying to the air...
...Only to land on his feet, cutting his assailents down with that superb blade of his. Maleagant gave a loud cheer. He felt his heart pounding faster than ever, he had thought the young lord woud surely die. Ha, a direwolf? He should change his sigil into an ape, the boy is as damn nimble as a monkey.
The rebels drove deep into the northern army, and ser Dwayne kept butchering their flanks. By now it was turning into a bloodbath, and the cries and screams seemed to shake the earth itself.
Maleagant noticed a portion of the rebels started to turn. He knew they would turn on the Ironhammer, who kept harrassing them from the side, so he send a messenger to warn the man. Ser Dwayne was fighting one on one with a fierce opponent at the moment, and before he could follow the order the rebels attacked in full might. His troops scattered before the attack, though it gave Roose Stark an opening. His cavalry seemed to crush the rebels. Men where ridden over and trampled, while the riders where screaming "Winterfell".
It proved to be to much for the rebels, who started to retreat. Both Stark and Bolton troops followed, intending to end the rebellions once and for all. But even so, the rebels managed to keep them from penetrating their ranks as they pulled back. Roose Stark slowed down on that, giving the rebels a taste of northern arrows instead.
But the rebels where strong, and kept the northern forces from crossing the river. And when they did pass their defenses, the rebels made a sortie. Maleagant saw ser Dwayne killing plenty of men, but overall they had to pull back from the rebels.
The rebels stayed behind their defenses as the northern forces pulled back, and both sides had a few moments to rest.
And when the rebels make one last, desperate attempt to fight, Roose Stark rallied his men, who attacked with all their might. The Stark soldiers cut their way straight to the heart of the rebel army, with ser Dwayne following them. The strenght and the numbers of the rebel forces where almost exhausted, and after a few minutes off fighting, the last rebels scattered. Maleagant saw one last man making a stand at the bridge, yelling things he could not hear from the distance, and fighting a few rounds with the lord before he was cut down by a group of knights. When Roose took the man's head, the fight was over. The rebellion has ended, Maleagant said. At the cost of thousands and thousand of lives.
