"Spoken like someone who's never seen the North," Erik tells her, refilling their cups, "And likely hardly even remembers the last winter here. But no matter." He lies back down next to her and leans in for a long kiss.

Dacey propped herself up on her elbows and kissed him back. "Will you be staying long?"

"Well, I'm not too sure, yet," He says, "A couple of my cousins have come back from the East, and they want me to go to the Islands with them. But I may have to see if certain...job opportunities pan out, first."

"Really?" Dacey drank her wine, nestling closer. "What job opportunities? Here in the city?"

"Well, don't get to excited just yet," He rests his hand on her hip, "but I need to go have a chat with the Regent. The Small Council's rather lacking, at the moment, and who's better for Master of Ships than I?"

"See? I told you to move to the Red Keep," Dacey said triumphantly. "I always get these things right. That's what I meant when I said that. The small council."

"Well, as I said, there's no guarantee," Erik shrugs, "Still, it would be nice to stay in one place, and it's no hardship to get away from Bear Island for the Winter. And of course there are other benefits." He gives a rakish grin.

"Well, I hope it happens. I need a good longship to ride this winter," she winked back.

"Well, you'll have to share me," Erik replies, "If I'm to live here, it wouldn't do to leave Gysella up North. And she can get dreadfully jealous, even of Rhelis. But she is wild when she's angry, so it's not so bad making up. You might have to sneak around a bit, though."

"Couldn't we share you at the same time?"

"I certainly wouldn't mind. But Gysella, she has these queer Greenlander ideas about fidelity, and marriage. If you were a salt wife, she wouldn't mind quite so much. But I'll have to talk to her. Mayhaps she'll see reason."

Dacey shrugged. "If I am to be your secret mistress, why, that is somewhat exciting too," she murmured, nibbling his ear.

"Well I should hope so, darling. But how long will it last? Can't be too long before I'm old and grey, and what would a pretty little redhead want with me then?"

She kissed him. "You don't even look salt and peppery, let alone old and grey."

"Give it a year or two. My father's hair was black at 30, grey at 40. Of course," Erik gets a wicked grin on his face and flips Dacey over to her back, then climbs on top of her, "I'm sure having the aforementioned pretty little redhead around does wonders for keeping me young."
