The Falconmen are busy scurrying around the tower, packing Rhodri's hunting tapestries and hunting blankets and hunting weapons in preparation for his departure.
Meanwhile, in the now barely furnished solar, Lord Rhodri is joined by the new Hand, Lord Piers Bettley, to introduce him to Ser Jonas Waxley. A bowl of plums sits at the center of the plain wood table.

Piers saunters in and plucks a plum from the bowl and bites into it, "These have never tasted as sweet as they used to, before I met Lilith. But they are still delightful."
Nodding to the other valeman, "What is Waxley doing here?"

"Piers, Jon Royce is going to be my official voice in court. You may also call on him whenever you need Vale men-at-arms, or a sword in the daylight. But for the real business of the realm, Ser Jonas is my representative. If a quiet message needs to be relayed to me, or if strange business is afoot, he is the man to speak with. Or if you need a sword in the moonlight."
"Ser Jonas served my father in a similar capacity. His loyalty is unquestionable, those his methods sometimes are."
Jonas Waxley smiles wanly, and speaks softly, and runs his hand through his graying hair. "Mi'lord Hand, my needs are few. If there was a chamber either here in your Tower or in the Red Keep for my pallet, all I would need is space to sleep and bookshelves for my reading. It need not have a hearth; I am fine by candlelight."

Piers looked at Rhodri with a wry look, "Rhodri, do I look like a man who would need to borrow a "Sword in the Moonlight." But fine your spy can stay as long as he keeps out of my way. Now Waxley wonder off and find a man named Poggs he will find a room for you."
Waiting til Waxley leaves, Piers looks at Rhodri with a sly smile on his face, "The King has ordered me to retire the Sea Lord. If I had a liegeman hiding in Braavos with my daugher, and I young girl I adopted I would have him move to a safter city, like Pentos or Myr. But not Volantis... there is a Rose infestation in Volantis."

Rhodri chuckles. "Waxley told me that sounded stupid, I thought I was being clever. But he is a handy man in any case. He can handle himself in a fight, but his best skill is his deep reservoir of knowledge. The man reads every book he can find; it consumes him. Use him as you see fit, but principally, he shall be our go-between. I needn't tell you that Jon Royce can not be trusted in all things."
"I will advise my sworn sword that Pentos or Myr are beautiful, and perhaps worth moving to."

"Jon Royce can be trusted to be Jon Royce, and as such can not be trusted completely by me. I hope he does practice discretion he is being lead down a dangerous trail, or should I say tail." Piers shakes his head and chuckles, "And if I need to speak to you Rhodri I will send word through Waxley immediately. Any advice to the new guy?"

Rhod seems a bit putoff about Jon and this "tail", but doesn't pursue it. "Listen to what Callen says and then do something different. He won't remember the difference anyway, and the Realm will be better for it."

"Must I listen to him then. It would seem better to just do what I want and ignore him." Piers grinned roguishly, "Have a safe journey Rhod, and enjoy your vacation. I have a feeling that duty will pull you from their soon enough."

"My duty is there. I hope," Rhodri says.
