Somewhere in the deserts of Dorne, forty armed men, and one woman, ride towards a village. They are silent and wear grim expressions. They ride through the main street and to the town square, which consists of some stables, an inn, and a few houses.
Mad Dog Hully dismounts and surveys the buildings for any signs of life. "Who is in charge here?" he bellows.

The "town" if it deserves the name, is largely deserted. But eventually after some screaming and yelling, an elderly man appears, followed by a small dog which is carrying a bone.
"Please, we don't have anything. Just leave us be!" the old man says pitifully. He is leaning heavily on a stick.
It occurs to Hully that the bone in the dog's mouth is a human femur.

"We don't have any food. Most of us is gone to Hellholt, where Lord Irwyn is giving food to any who surrender, but my son was soldier for Lord Fowler, and he's afraid they'll kill him for his service. There is just the ten of us now."

Madden pitied the man but knew he would not remain leader of the band for long if he appeared to be weak. "I'd like ta take your word, but I can't. My men and I are gonna have to search your homes here for some food. We also be stayin the night here, too, and we be riding in the mornin'. Thank ya."
Mad Dog turns and gives the signals to the outlaws, who fan out in groups of three and four, searching the homes for any valuables or food.

There are indeed ten people, the old man, his son, a strapping looking boy with boiled leather armor and a nicked sword. He does not raise any trouble when the men search.
They find a pouch containing perhaps 20 coppers.
Than in one house they find a fire going, with a pot boiling over in the back.

The men bed up in the various buildings, setting up watches just in case the old man's son had any ideas. Mad Dog slept with his woman, Lacy, the small and pretty Dornish girl he had met in that village after Lemonwood.
In the morning, the men rise and eat the rest of their meager provisions, drink from the town's water, and then continue north. The Boneway was not far.
Before they left, Mad Dog offers the young man a chance to join their outlaw band, explaining to him that he had a batter chance to survive with the men than he did in this desolate desert town, and adventures and women along the way.

The ten people of the village enjoy their dog meat and boot stew the next day.

The small camp held ten tents, though the looked more like sand dunes than tents.
Quinlan sat and looked at a map and munched on a lemon.

Ser Benjen Sand, known as The Black Lemon, skulked over and sat down next to Quinlan. He peered over his shoulder at the map and raised his eyebrows.
"Making plans?" he inquired.

Quinlan looked up from the map.
"Yes, I am trying to see where we should go next, and see if I can figure out how to find Ser Mintos and your "brother""

Benjen's face broke into a smile. "Ah, so we are on the hunt for Lord Ackley," he said thoughtfully.
He looked down at the map once more.
"So show me, what are you thinking so far?"

"Noone has seen Lord Minos since they attacked Lemonwood, but my guess is they are hiding here" pointing at some mountains not far from Vaith land.
"What do you think, Ser Benjen?"

He shrugged. "Buggered if I know," he said. "Though your guess is as good as any I suppose, and you don't get anywhere without trying."
