The battered Stormlands host fought outside Kingsgrave and finally made it to the keep's walls. The worst seemed to be over, strangely enough, as they were finally free from the ambushing force.
Breck had always heard that war was hell, but now he had firsthand proof. The last two battles he fought in had been so unbelievably intense he didn't have words to describe them. There was too much blood though, too many bodies, and the scenes were too vicious for his liking. Neither did he like the Dornish tactic of guerrilla warfare...it seemed so dishonorable.
Wiping sweat from his brow Breck sighed in exhaustion. His clothes were blood soaked and so were most of those of the men around him. Most of his thoughts were with his fallen comrades, and his betrothed, Nora. He vowed that as soon as he returned they would be married. It would be a grand celebration, Breck thought, and he fantasized about it for most of the hot ride to Kingsgrave. Breck had never been so hot in his life, especially in the dead of winter. The Dornish sun left him burned, and the guerrillas left him bleeding. No wonder no one was excited about invading Dorne.
You can't escape from the Dornish sun, Breck had heard someone once say. No truth was greater than this, and as he wrapped a soaking wet cloth around his neck he looked up and spotted the walls of Kingsgrave. The keep of House Manwoody would hopefully much easier to take than the keep at Yronwood, which had taken from him many of his best men. Mustering the most of his strength he rode forward with his guards to the front of the host, where it seemed that there was already a parlay beginning between his men and the Dornish.
The Lord Regent watched as he saw a man in Manwoody livery proclaim his sister dead and the gates of the castle were opened. Apparently though, his sister's men had felt otherwise about her murder and were right behind him to stab his back. The Manwoody man, killed almost instantly was replaced by the guards of the minimal Kingsgrave garrison as they tried to quickly shut the gates.
Lord Breck Dondarrion was one of the first men through the gates, and he fought beside Liam Connington, taking out all of his vicious anger on the wavering Manwoody soldiers.
It was not long at all before Ser Liam and Breck were through the gates of the castle and swinging their swords with improved skill and blood rage. In a short time, the Dornish leadership collapsed, and the castle was theirs...in the meantime however, they were at the will of the battle hardened Stormlanders.
Results:
Ser Liam Connington (twice improved) improves to Grandmaster swordsmanship
Breck Dondarrion (once improved) improves to Master swordsmanship (after the battle outside Kingsgrave and the battle inside Kingsgrave)
