The army under Lord Coldiron's command arrives outside the keep and begins to set up camp. Erik, with 50 men as guards, approaches and asks to speak to Lord Smallwood.

Lord Daeron Smallwood looked down from the parapet side by side with a number of crossbowmen.
"Iron Born! I hope you don't think you can take this keep with that sorry host do you?"

"Not right away. If you didn't give up quickly, I was planning on burning every inch of land for miles around and taking every living person as a thrall. Then, with the fun out of the way, I'd take the keep. But I know you're smarter than to let something like that happen, Smallwood, so come out here and let's discuss the matter like men." Erik calls up to him.

Smallwood grunted, and disappeared from the top of the wall.
He reappeared several mintues later, behind some men at arms, in his platemail.
"Ah. it's Coldiron, you seem far from your fleet." The man said with a grunt.

Erik shrugs. "Wasn't my idea. But we work with what is given to us, do we not? For example, you've been given a rather hostile army on your doorstep, and must decide how to work with it, that you and your people live to see another Summer."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Smallwood replied.

"It's simple," Erik says with a smirk, "What loyalty do you owe the Baratheons? They have done nothing but drive Westeros into the ground since they took the throne, rewarding traitors more than their own loyal subjects, wasting money on frivolities, taking from their people yet never giving. So bend the knee to King Dagon Harlaw. He will reward those who come peacefully. Or, you can refuse, and your men will be butchered, your women raped, your children made thralls, and your lands given to some Ironborn scum that don't deserve it. Your choice."

Smallwood grunted. It was true times had been hard, still, he was a proud man.
"The Ironborn serve those foreign devils, and I'll never serve some lizard-man."

"I have my own concerns about that. It's a marriage of convenience. Harlaw serves no one, but gladly works alongside our new allies. And why not? It's not as though anyone's come here to help you. I see no Baratheon flags here, nor Blackwood. They're holed up in their own lands, worrying about their own skins. They don't deserve your loyalty."

"I heard the Blackwood's are planning to march against the enemy soon, probably in hopes that Lord Tully is killed." Smallwood replied, "I can't in good conscious help them either. My inclination is to stay here, and sit it out. Let the Gods decide the victor, and I'll kneel to him."

Erik chuckles. "That wasn't an option I gave you. But I can work with you. How many men can you field, Smallwood?"

"maybe twenty-five hundred, if I've got time. I'll not kill Riverlanders, not for the likes of you. Northerners, Valemen, something like that, okay... mayhaps I could see the sense of it."

"You've got the wrong idea, Smallwood. I don't plan to kill a single Riverlander, if I can help it. I intend to head up through the Twins, make sure the Northerners stay up North. And fifteen hundred of your troops would certainly make things easier."

Smallwood nodded. "Others take the lot of us, we're doomed anyway. Fine. Take them. and bring them back."
