Ser Gilbert Flowers looked on towards the beach at Lemonwood to his right and left the combined fleets of the Far Reach, West and Mander sat ominously on the horizon. Peyton Redwyne stood comfortably at the helm of his command ship as the first signal flag was raised.
The Far Reach ships formed into a double line and sailed parallel to the coast from west to east. Then suddenly the lead ship made a sharp turn to port and made its approach towards the beach. Just before hitting the beach the ship turned again and went parallel to the shore again this time towards the west, the lead ship flew past the Keep at Lemonwood and unleashed a full volley with its catapult, the next ship in line did the same and so forth to ensure that as the first ships landed the defenders of the Keep were under bombardment. Peyton Redwyne knew that the attack was unlikely to damage the walls but the hope was that the scene of rock and fire being launched from the ships would distract the defenders from concentrating their fire at the men landing on the beach until it was too late.
Ser Edric Cuy and his men landed first. They ran quickly from the ships with large wooden shields designed to soak up missile fire. These shields were placed tightly together and then formed a line perpendicular to the shore. As more men exited the ships they immediately ran to the cover of the shields as their comrades unloaded. The last men off the ship carried two covered Rams, which took position behind the shields. While the 7500 men of the Far Reach hit the beach from the west of the keep, the ships of the Mander under Aegon Tyrell and the ships of the West under Lewys Lydden landed to the east of the keep using similar tactics.
Both sides advanced from opposite directions with ladders and rams and attacked the walls and gates. The Shields moved with the army until they caught fire or were too heavy with projectiles to be used as cover any more.
The battle raged on for many hours, but eventually the walls and gate were taken. The Dornish fought bravely attempting to protect the inner keep but it soon fell as well.
Results:
