Alexander Irwyn rested his eyes in the mountain passes of the Boneway. His men had made good time through the terrain and now sat camped a few leagues from the Keep at Wyl. His scouts had already surveyed the area and made preparations for what was to come next. If any of the Dornish scouts did survive then they would know that the Far Reach Army was at least a day a way and they had time for preparations. At least that is what Alexander hoped.
After a light dinner some of the army broke camp. 8000 men began a quick march to the keep. They traveled relatively light as the bulk of the supplies traveled with the other half of the forces. These soldiers carried only their weapons and armor and were guided down the mountainous passes by a group of candles lit every 50 yards to guide the men as they traveled in darkness. The full moon made the trip a little easier when it was not hidden by the clouds.
As the men closed the encampment they extinguished their lights, it seemed that the Dornish had only the normal night time watch on duty. Alexander shook hands with Ser Oliver Bulwer and Lord Tarly as Irwyn’s assault party met up with the 2000 scouts who had been sent as Vanguard.
“Ready?” Alex asked, the men said nothing although Alexander knew the answer was yes.
The men moved swiftly, they needed to close the distance as quickly as possible for the attack to work. The laddermen were given a heads start then the main army followed close behind them the men of the Far Reach moved quickly approaching the Gate house and the wall on two sides. As the men closed, a clamor erupted from the battlements. Confusion ran supreme as the Far Reach ladders were thrown up on the North and west walls of the keep. Arrows began to fly slowly and some ladders were kicked down but eventually the walls were taken, arrows and crossbows flew down on the sleepy defenders as they traveled half dressed to their stations.
The Dornish fought bravely but the 1000 defenders were no match for 12,000 men and the leadership of the Far Reach. The Keep at Wyl soon fell and the port was secured the next day as the other 10,000 men of the Reach marched down the mountain pass.
Within days, allied ships began to poor in to reinforce the Keep and bring more supplies to the men.
Results:
Far Reach Captures the Keep at Wyl
Far Reach Casualties: 1500
Dornish Casualties: 1000 (All defenders are put to the sword)
