This is the PM I sent Aerie. When I get back I'll think out properly how I mean to do the RP-Skills thing:
We are going to breed horses. And not just any horses. Horses descended from two iconic stallions: Anarchy and Captain Snow.
Although Snow and Anarchy were coursers, we should breed both destriers and coursers from them, which means we have to add a couple other bloodlines into the mix. But what I want to have eventually is a breed of horse that is so hardy, so brave, so swift, so strong, and so fucking badass that it becomes a brand name, like Arbor wine.
Duskgrave is what I'm thinking now - it brings out the distinctive part of your name and my seat. Other combinations are bland and don't point to us: Greydale, Duskcopse, etc. Duskgrave sounds best to me, but let me know if you have a better one.
I think we need to make sure the primary breeding is between Snow's and Anarchy's progeny. I mentioned in the KL harbor that I had brought horses with me, just didn't specify how many. Let's say Captain Snow and Anarchy each sired three stallions and many more mares (and geldings, perhaps). That's perfect to start with - six stallions and lots of mares, all from the Captain Snow or Anarchy lines.
We will each exchange one stud, and several mares. And Greycopse and the Dun Fort are going to run twin breeding programs.
Right now Aranya rides a grey mare who is a granddaughter of Snow. So she will show the horse to you in KL, I suppose.
You and I are should get a new skill, Breeding, which we can use to ensure that our horses are real advantages in war or in races. Also, I plan to breed hounds later, so the same skill can be used. And you can breed shadowcats as well, using the same Breeding skill.
I want to ask Smith and Stranger if we can increase our Breeding skill through RP instead of just scenarios. Scenarios become spam and get sooo damn boring. RPing is interactive and unpredictable, and you don't have to get a headache constructing some false situations. Also, working with horses in RP with the two of us would be way more fun.
So we ought to set a Breeding Standard. I think Anarchy and Captain Snow both distinguished themselves, but especially in two areas: Captain Snow with speed, Anarchy with concentration and temperament. In all other respects, I tend to think they both have very similar conformations and strengths.
A rough list (By the way, you should add whatever you want/disagree with whatever you want from what I've said so far):
1. 16-17 hands (depending on if its a courser or destrier)
2. Long clean legs (speed)
3. Short back (jumping)
3. Deep, wide chest (power)
4. Long, broad, highly arched neck (elegance)
5. Long, sloping shoulder (elegance - at least to my eyes)
6. Slightly convex, medium-length head
7. Large eyes
8. Thick, long manes and tails
9. Acceptable colors: black, all shades of bay (blood bay most prized), chestnut, grey and blue roan.
What do you think of all this so far?
Aerie is coming with Aranya to retake Duskendale - and by the way, important question about that. How many soldiers does Greycopse command? Because you will be leading your men, not just you And I need your men.
This is my plan, tell me what you think:
You are coming to Duskendale with me and when we retake the castle (with the numbers Roland and Tallahar have promised me, it shouldn't pose a huge problem), there will be feasting. Then all the gallant lords and knights who helped me will go away to play at war in Dorne. Aranya will invite you to stay and you will look over the horses, and then Aranya will choose a stud and some mares for your farm and she will ride back to Greycopse with you, inspect your horses, take your stud and mares back to Duskendale, etc.
And the kids can meet each other!
