The window was fairly interesting, a small bird was perched on one of the few trees outside… The sun shined down on the dilapidated buildings, hundreds of people filed down crowded streets.
Ser Blane Langward looked up, “What is it?” He asked bluntly.
“I have the report you asked for Ser, here it is.” The man hands Ser Blane a few sheets of paper, and he quickly scans the information.
Ser Blane looks up again, frowning. “I had no idea this many Gold Cloaks sided with Horas, or even that this many had died. We have half what we had, and 2/3 of what we have are untrained urchins with swords. This must be changed, the city cannot be policed by 1,500 untrained men. See to it immediately that all the Captains meet here tomorrow, we have to get organized.” The man walked out of the room, and Blane turned his attention back to the window.

Ser Blane paced the length of the room, waiting for all the captains to come in. At the end of the table sat the Captain of the Gate of Gods, an unreliable man who is as trustworthy as your gold in his pocket, Blane though. To his left the Captains of the Lion and King’s Gates, both good men, but sided with Horas. Only spared because of their experience… Blane pondered, walking further down the line. Captain of the Iron Gate, Old but strong like iron, a loyal man to be trusted, the Captain of the Dragon Gate, wiry weasel that can’t be trusted any further than you throw him. And finally, Captain of the Old Gate, a man whose appetite is outmatched only by his willingness to work for his own lands. All in all, not too bad of a group.
“Friends, comrades, brothers, I have called you here to solve our dilemma. Our numbers swelled under Horas, but then were crushed and defeated. We now have only 1,500 Gold Cloaks, with the majority of them untrained. What we need to do is train the men we have, and ensure their loyalty. This is not the time for dissent to spread in our ranks. We need to hold strong and true, and be loyal ourselves to the Lord Regent, Benfry Smith.” Ser Blane said, sitting down as he finished. He looked around the table, and met all blank faces, some not even paying attention.
“Lyonel, Gendry, set to training the Gold Cloaks. Make up a list of all the surviving ones, and split them into shifts. Those off duty you will be training.” He said to the Captains of the King’s Gate and Lion Gate. The two men nodded, they’d do their job well.
“Frenken, set to ensuring the men’s loyalty. Speak to all the men, making sure they understand Lord Commander Benfry Smith is the true Lord Regent, and their duties to the city will not be tainted by their personal beliefs. Their job is to police the city and dispense justice, not decide who is the rightful Regent.” The Captain of the Iron Gate nodded in agreement, already looking to be going over in his head what he will do.
“That is it, you may all go.” Ser Blane finished, sitting there. He watched as the six Captains walked out, all leisurely. He sat there for a while longer, thinking over the future of the Gold Cloaks. At least three of them must go, he thought, I will not have the Gold Cloaks led by corruptible men of greed. The others can be persuaded to my side, they wont be much trouble. Ser Blane thought, as he left the room.
