Beric rose before dawn. He got dressed, put on his armor and went ate the remains of his late night meal. The words
of the message were still going through his head. The message, a note that someone had slipped him, he had found the
day before. 'It could be a trick' he thought, but it just had a feeling that it was entirely ligitimate. He went downstairs, put
a few coppers into a mug that was still sitting on the bar and left the tavern. He had made preperations, and quickly. In
this kind of situation Beric knew that he could not dawdle. He crossed the narrow road, walked down a narrow alley
and ended up in a small square. And there were his men, all read. 'No banner.' Beric noted, and it made him glad. "The
fleet?" he asked the the man he knew to be in charge of these men. "The Dornish ships are already on their way to Highgarden."
the man replied. He was a thickset man, with coal black hair and a thick moustache. Beric nodded and looked over his men.
The best of the Dornish, all men with proud faces and intelligent eyes. "If this is everyone, then let us..." he was interrupted by
a shout from the alley. Someone was calling his name. Beric winced and feared that someone had found out about his plan, but
when he turned he saw that it was only the girl. The innkeeps daughter was only about eight, a skinny little girl with sandy
hair and a pale complexion, but from the moment she had seen Beric she became obsessed with him. Beric was amused,
seeing as he had never been a knight typical for impression young girls, with their tales of valour, their shining armor and
their pretty shaved faces. But somehow the lass had not been distracted by his somewhat drawn looks. 'And why should
she?' Beric thought. She looked similar enough to him, all apart from the eyes. Were Beric's own were grey-and-purple,
this girl had deep blue eyes, nearly as powerfull as Aryannas'. "What are you doing here, Finny?" Beric said to the girl.
With her blue eyes she looked up to him and then started crying. Beric sighed, and walked to the girl. "What is it?" he asked
again. The girl swallowed a sob and looked at him again. "Why are you going?" she asked. "Because I have to." Beric replied.
"Anyway, you shouldn't have followed me." "But I wanted to!" she wailed. Finny started hugging his leg and Beric felt like his
cheeks my be turning red... 'No, they never do.' He thought. Still, this was the last thing he wanted his men to see, so he picked
her up and lifted her so they were of the same height. "Listen Finny. I am a knight, and knights have to do many things they
don't like. I would have loved to tell you some stories about all my deeds, but I have to leave." He put her down and was about
to tell her to get back to the inn when he thought of something. He pulled one of his daggers out and handed it grip first to the
girl. She only stared at it, with eyes bigger than he could imagine. He had to laugh. "I got this dagger in Braavos when I was a
little boy. I was somewhat older than you, but in a city like that you would do well with a weapon." And perhaps also in the
sort of city this will become he nearly added. "Take it, Finny. It is yours now." Finny grabbed the dagger and inspected it like
only a child would. "Keep it hidden from your parents, Fin. I doubt they would approved of you having a weapon." He walked
up to Shadow, who was being held by one of his men, mounted and gave Finny a last smile. "Don't tell them what happened this
morning Fin. Don't tell anyone."
As they road out of the gates of Lannisport, Beric couldn't help thinking about Finny. She would find a knight, someday, a better
one than him. He just hoped whoever he was would be a kind and generous man. And then he had to think of another girl, who
however was a little older. 'Aryanna...' he thought. 'Soon I shall see you again.
