Karlon Barclay looked out across the waters as his fleet got closer to the shores of Duskendale. The forty warships carried a modest host to the mainland of Westeros where the beginnings of the civil war would be carried out. Ser Ulger Gaunt, stood beside Barclay, as the two peered out at the blue sea for the next hour before spotting the port city of Duskendale.
As they landed beside the walls of Duskendale, a rider on behalf of the city met them at the shores. The rider questioned the army's intentions and when the answer came that they didn't mean to invade Duskendale the rider was relieved.
"Our castellan wishes to meet with you anyway, Lord Barclay", the rider said, as Barclay clasped on a traveling cloak.
Karlon nodded and rode into Duskendale with a few men as the rest of his army made camp outside the gates. The pale red walls were an eery sight, but he was made to get over it by the possibility that these men would help him.
Karlon was brought to the castellan of the castle, a bearded middle aged man in heavy robes as the man was writing on parchment paper.
"Hail, Castellan", Karlon said formally, as the man looked up from his papers.
"Karlon Barclay, correct?"
The man nodded.
"Good, welcome to Duskendale. I was assured your army is not intending to invade Duskendale, correct?"
Barclay nodded again. "We are here for a purpose similar in goal to yours. We are also not friends of Horas Blackwood."
"That is your goal, is it not? To see him wiped from this plane?"
Karlon nodded his head in affirmation, "We are here in vengeance of the rightful Regent, the Lord Commander. We have no affiliation with any person who wishes harm upon Duskendale. We wish to stay here, and help fortify your city, and defend it in the case that Blackwood's armies march north. We are both enemies of the false Regent, and if we stand together, we may get some work done." Karlon smiled.
The castellan grinned and told the tall great bearded man that he'd have his answer within two days.
The next night a party of riders came to their camp and informed them that they were allowed to stay within the city gates. Karlon was pleased, and as he spoke with the riders about the fair terms of the pact, he watched his army ride inside the city before him.
Results:
Karlon Barclay, Ser Ulger Gaunt and 4,000 men join the garrison at Duskendale. 40 ships are at the port.
