A score of outriders intercepted them a mile from the city, and after Cahrin finally translated what their purpose was, the riders escorted them back to the city. It was not truly a city, Cahrin knew, more like a large town. He had been to all the free cities, King's Landing in Westeros, and Astapor. They all dwarfed Noth'Kol in size, but Cahrin noticed that the streets were filled to the capacity with thousands of grim men and tired women, hungry children running heedlessly through the flow of the crowd. Cahrin likened Noth'Kol in size as slightly smaller than White Harbor, a northern town in Westeros he had visited on occasion.
As his Admiral had instructed, Cahrin closely studied the strength and manner of the defenses in the town. A high, strong wall circled around the town, and two strong towers stood on either side of the main gate. It is a strong wall, but only one. This city will not stand if they defy Arerya, Cahrin calculated. They took his horses and led him through a large, ornate door and into a sprawling mansion. After being disarmed and left waiting in an open reception room, he was ushered into another large chamber. A large, plump man with a braided beard sat behind a large table, and silently offered Cahrin a seat across from him. A translator stood behind the man.
After the man spoke, the translator began, "I, Illios, as the Grand Council Chairman of Noth'Kol, welcome you and your two companions to our city. You will have generous accomodations tonight, but first, let us get to the matter at hand." Cahrin glanced at this foreign noble and handed him the message the Admiral has sent with him to pass along. The translator read the contents of the parchment to the man.
The Chairman seemed to be in deep thought, until he suddenly smiled and said something to the translator. "Chairman Illios would be pleased to send four companies of his finest warriors to help the Admiral slay the vile Kalior" the servant said simply. Cahrin nodded, this is going too easy, he thought to himself. Sure enough, the translator then informed Cahrin that Illios wished to receive half of the plunder that would be won from sacking Kalior. "I'm afraid I cannot allow that, Chairman," Cahrin replied carefully. "However, Admiral Taor will allow your warriors to keep whatever plunder they come by, as is their right through battle." Illios wasn't happy with the answer, and they spent another hour hammering out the final details. In the end, Cahrin was forced to pledge that half of the plunder won by the Chairman's soldiers would be presented to the Chairman personally for his own use. Greedy bastard, Cahrin thought inwardly, but still smiling amicably at the man.
Cahrin and his two men departed from Noth'Kol in the morning, in the midst of three thousand Noth'Kol infrantry.
Results:
Admiral Taor and the Summer Islands gain a new ally in the region, Noth'Kol.
The city of Noth'Kol lends three thousand armored infantry soldiers to aid in the possible upcoming assault of the city of Kalior.
