Smith,
Sorry to overwhelm you with PM's I am sure you have 50,000 of them but I am losing computer access after tonight until I get back to the East Coast so I will have to give you a list of what I am doing to keep the opposition moving in my absence.
1. Raise the Full Army of 40,000.
2. Crew the ships I think 7,500 is what we need to man 150 ships in the ship department. Have them patrol the coast off of Oldtown to intercept any forces by sea.
3. Send spies, to Highgarden and Dorne to watch for troop movements.
4. Smuggle in a small force of 250 men into Highgarden to attack and open the gate from the inside "if we have to" attack the Mander. They will pose as travelers and merchants and will attempt to gain access before the city is sealed. They will lay in wait until the army approaches. They will claim to be highwaymen if captured while inside and will carry no information tying them to the Far Reach or Alexander.
After crewing the Navy this should leave 32,500 in the main army.
- 4,000 Remain at Oldtown for a token defense
- 8,500 Will infiltrate the Dornish Mountains and setup an ambush on the Prince's Pass.
- 20,000 will assemble at Horn Hill and begin to take positions in the extensive fortifications we built there for the last war. Of these 20,000 men a patrol of 5,000 will be sent to patrol our side of the Mander in case the Mander Reach attacks. They will retreat to the prebuilt holdfasts if the army is too large.
Orders for the Ambush:
Infiltrate through the Dornish mountains near Uplands and move to setup an ambush on the Prince's Pass for when the Dornish Army marches North. My army had patrolled the mountains extensively during the Andry war so has a decent idea of the terrain on our side at least. They are to operate in complete secrecy with no identifying features tying them to the Reach. Any person that sees them along the way is to be killed, so word cannot reach Dorne of their presence. The Force will be led by Ser Gilbert (Master of Battle, Legendary Construction)and will take up a position along the ridges of the pass where it necks down and is isolated from the Dornish Keeps along the pass.
When the Dornish Army reaches the ambush point, the Army will attack with missile weapons from the cliffs. At the ambush site, the Far Reachers will dig kill traps covered pits with sharp sticks in front of where the ambush is to take place so that if the generals try to push through the ambush there men will fall into the traps set up ahead.
In Addition to the missile fire, the Far Reach army will have boulders setup to fall on the enemy below, where they only need to cut the support and it will launch landslides. They will also bring barrels of pitch and oil with them that they will throw below and ignite with fire arrows to burn as many of them as possible.
As soon as the Dornish get some semblance of a defense and start trying to counter attack, the Far Reach will depart the area using designated escape routes back towards Horn Hill. These Escape Routes will have traps setup to kill or maim any would be pursuers and should be armed after the last Reachman passes through.
The idea is to hit the Dornish as hard as possible to weaken their strength slow them down with a lot of injured and wounded before they are able to reunite with the other enemy forces to crush us.
A smaller force of 100 crossbowmen will watch the pass along the boneway and attempt to ambush Fowler if he should leave Kinglanding and head to Dorne to raise an army. This squad will look to assassinate the general, they will try and make the attack look like a robbery and then depart as quickly as possible. This is only if Fowler leaves Kinglanding.
Orders for Horn Hill:
The Army at Horn Hill will work to expand the fortifications of the keep and construct as many trebuchets and catapaults as they can. These will be setup in a defensive position with ranges predetermined ahead of time. Should a force move to attack Horn Hill they will be able to launch stone and barrels of flaming pitch and oil at the would be attackers. The Army will make preparations for an immediate march on Highgarden if ordered but otherwise will make preparations to improve the stores for a very long siege. The fields surrounding Horn Hill will be ready to be put to the torch in event of a hostile army invades so they can not use its resources against the defenders.
I know this will take months to get ready but just want something to happen while I am away. If you absolutely need a response from me to keep the game moving then ask Francis.
Thanks Smith,
Alex
