"Well then..." Ser Preston said, leaning against a nearby wall. "Sorry, but it seems as though we must avoid pleasentries, I need to make a report. However..." He held out his hand. "I'm Ser Preston Rogers of Winterfell."

"Wat Shephard of Stoney Shore, someone call me the Shepherder," Wat clasped the hand.

"Care to tell me how this all happened?" Ser Preston said, rubbing his side-whiskers.

"The lords of Stoney Shore were cruel and inept, and apparantly they were wanting to move out from the Lord Stark's authority. Some of their guards said they muttered plenty about how foolish it was to take so many men beyond the wall in the winter no less. The Death March they called it if I remember correctly. Additionally the lords were taking food from us and barred us from the keeps," Wat said. "Children were dying. The injustices of Stoney Shore hides in those three words".

Ser Preston nodded. "Forgive me, but can I talk to these guards? In private of course." He gave a weak smile, one that said sorry, "Honestly, I've heard the same story. And in all likeliness you'll probably be named Lord Steward of the Stoney Shores. I just need to hear all the accounts of what transpired here."

Wat nodded and went to the maester to discuss some issues.

After talking to a few of the soldiers formerly under the service of the late lord of these parts Ser Preston finally finished his investigation. After finding Wat again he pulled out his sword. "With the authority given to me by Roose Stark, Lord of Winterfell and the North I would make you the Lord Steward of these parts. Do you accept these honours?"

Wat smiled and knelt "I swear by the old gods that I will do my best to make Stoney Shore as great as other lands in the North".

"This is not a competition Wat." Ser Preston said. "Make the Stoney Shore great for the sake of the North as a whole."
He raised the sword, laying it on Wat's shoulder. "By the gods, old and new. Under the authority of Roose Stark, Lord of the North and Winterfell, and Rickon Baratheon, the First of his name, King of the Rhoynar, the Andals, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm I hearby charge you with Lordship and Stewardship over the Stoney Shore."
"Hence forth your House shall be known as House Shepard, Lords of the Stoney Shore, Shields of the Western Coast. You and your descendants will hold these lands and titles in liel service to the Lords of Winterfell and the King on the Iron Throne. Your duties, to name but a few, are to raise your banners at your lord's call, to honour the commitments to him and your people, to act as a steward to the people under your rule. Do you swear to uphold these vows?"

"I do so swear," Wat said. "Did you bring the books that I asked for? The library here is small and most of the books are being used by the folk trying to read".

Ser Preston ignored his last question. He suddenly struck Wat's left shoulder with the flat of his blade, lifted it to the right, and did the same. Lowering the blade he cuffed Wat on the face. "And these blows are so that you remember the weight that your vows carry. Rise Lord Wat Shepard."
"The books are on the boat."

Wat stood up and almost rolled his eyes. "Lords and their foolish rituals," he thought. Nodding and smiling he said "Thank you for the books, they will be of great help". Wat whistled and Wat the White, Brown and Lumberjack came.
"Lumberjack would you go and fetch the books at the boat, White go and make the chef prepare a meal and Brown make sure that the men from Winterfell is comfortable".
He turned back to Ser Preston. "I reckon you'll stay here at least a few days? Travelling during the winter is a harsh task for anyone"

"It would be welcome." They both turned to walk to the keep. "Do you know how long it took to memorize that little spiel?"

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
A steady stream of people continue to stream in and take residence in the villages of the Stoney Shore. The rumor of free land and plenty of food and shelter during the harsh winter has spread all throughout the north, and peasants are risking the snow and danger of the roads to make their way to the land where all have rights to live after their own fashion.
