Daniel watches from across the yard and snickers to himself. Gawain would be the one to help that snippy little bitch. Hope he makes it to the hand with out taking off Rodrick's head. He then got up and walked to the battlements.

Since receiving the news of his sisters death Darien spent many nights strolling alone along the walls of Deep Den. On another such night he stood, his eyes raised to the moon.

"Can't sleep?" came a voice behind Darien as he was moon gazing. As the figure stepped closer Darien could see the face of the Lord Hand. He wore some light mail and had his axes on his back. "I couldn't either, I found I got used to these bastards fucking horn."

Darien was surprised about seeing the Hand but did not let it show. "It feels like there is no reason to sleep. In the day the sun keeps me up and come night the thoughts of an imminent attack prevent me from getting any rest." He sighed and looked down. "My sister..." He stopped there, not really knowing what to say.

Alexander nodded, "did a very brave thing," Alexander said finishing Darien's sentence he knew a thing or two about losing a loved one. "Had she told anyone we would have no doubt tried to talk her out of it." Alexander walked closer to Darien looking out at the moon and the enemy camp below.
"We live every day with the threat of imminent attack," Alexander said thinking back towards Dorne, "Death comes when the Stranger wills it. . . no sooner. . . so no sense dwelling on something we can't change."

Darien nodded but couldn't bring himself to talk for a while. Finally he said "It's just... her children. What shall become of them? They do not have a mother anymore." He had to think of Brynden then, and wondered how the boy would react to the news.

"The children will be raised by her family Darien." Alexander said, trying not to sound too cold, as he spoke he thought back to his three little ones at home with Anne in Oldtown. "Its not ideal by any means but the children of Westeros are no strangers to loss, we have been in almost constant strife for the past 7 years."
The Lord Hand stood silently next to the grieving Stone. The cold winter silence seemed to comfort the man more then Alexander ever could.

Darien nodded. "I see. And what of us? What chances to we truly have against these invaders? For all we know there are even more of them sailing to Westeros at this very moment."

Alexander nodded, "Even I cannot fortell the future," Alexander said with a chuckle, "not that I haven't set the Grand Maester on the task."
Alexander scratched his black hair still dirty from the previous battles. "The enemy caught us unaware when the landed, but now that the full force of Westeros is awakened they cannot stand against us. The enemy's sea will soon ebb back towards the depths that they came and I am confident that you and I will both live to see the day."
Alexander handed Darien a wine pouch after taking a swig himself. "At least you will have a lot of material for new songs," the Lord Hand said with a smile.

Taking the wine pouch, Darien had to smile. After a big gulp he handed it back to the Hand and wiped his mouth. "It may sound strange, but I cannot wait for battle. If purging these men from our soil is not enough, then avenging my sister is another good cause to fight for." Knowing it sounded stupid he added "I hope to face the man that killed her."

Alexander sat down on the rampart near Darien. "Revenge is a powerful thing," Alexander said solemnly, "although it rarely provides the results we are looking for." Alexander thought back to the women he murdered at Sunspear. "No amount of killing will ever fill the hole of your sister's loss," Alexander says from experience, "you would be better served to live your life to honor her memory," Alexander said taking the wine skin back for another swallow. "Trust me on this one," Alexander managed a weak smile before handing the skin back.

Darien sighed and took another big gulp from the skin. "I hope that when this is over I can find a place to rest a while and marry Asha. A name I may not have but a family is still a possibility." After another swig the skin was nearly empty so he handed it back to the lord Hand. "Yes... that may be something worth fighting for."

Alexander smiled, "its worth living for," Alexander said as he got up, "its something that is worth living for and sometimes what is worth living for is worth fighting for," Alexander patted Darien on the back as he turned to leave. "Oh and try and get some rest, the sun will be up soon."
With that Alexander turned to continue his walk of the Keep's defenses.

Darien stared for a long time after the Hand, even after he had disappeared. He sighed again as he looked up one last time at the moon, still feeling somewhat empty. Maybe his part in all of this wasn't as big - maybe it was supposed to end here. Whatever he could do, he would, even if it meant his death. Sighing again he thought of the people he had already lost; the people he could lose. "Worth living for?" He murmured, before retreating to his chambers.

Not being able to sleep and with thoughts of revenge still on his mind, Darien went to his sisters former chambers, hoping the Cedric Lannister was awake. He knocked lightly on the door and waited.
