Lord Barclay is politely, but competently searched and disarmed prior to entry.
"I apologize for the theatrics, but its proven necessary in the past." Francis says simply. "what can I do for you?"

Emmon looked a little surprised that Varner was up at this hour, but did mention it. "When my counterspy network reported back to me tonight they made mention of the fact that specific Goldcloaks had been bought off by some stranger and paid to go off duty at some near date."

Francis raised his eyebrow. "Counterspies, Lord Barclay? Do I have competition in my council duties?" He chuckled. "Have your people had any luck pinning down the date or the particular areas of the city where gold cloaks are being pulled off? Or perhaps some additional information on the stranger?

Emmon laughed, "I apologize for my paranoia, Lord Varner, but I felt uncomfortable making the dive from small keep to big city. I thought that the network was my best shot at survival." He smiled, but it only lasted until he began his response to the inquiry, "Nothing. The report was vague, and I could have my spies delve deeper but then I also put my own safty at risk. I don't find myself to be casually paranoid, but under certain circumstances..." He laughed, however uncomfortably.

"I find too many chefs can spoil the broth Lord Barclay. Part of the reason we missed Lord Piers assassination attempt is because of well meaning Lords who let their agents get co-opted. Nevertheless, I thank you for this warning, it shows your heart is in the right place. If you learn anything else, please get in touch with me." Francis looks down, as if finished, before looking up again.
"Oh, We've rotated members of the King's Men in Gold Cloak uniforms to hold the Mud Gate and Gate of the Gods, so I suspect this plot will be quickly crushed if something is sprung on us. So no need to be... paranoid."

"An excellent idea Lord Varner. Oh and if you think my network is damaging the efficiency of yours I will humbly reduce its scope."

Francis laughed. "If our people cross paths while investigating, I'm sure they'll resolve any issues they have with each other."
