Robb is reading an ancient tome in his solar when Ser Oliver enters with his son and heir. Robb shoves the book aside when he notices their presence and smiles wide. "Tomas, I presume? My new right hand man! It is nice to meet you."

The boy seems shy at first and looks to his father for guidance. Oliver offers none.
"It is... a pleasure to meet you too my Lord," the boy says, in a voice that still wavers slightly between the higher tones of a boy and the deeper tones of a man, jarring occasionally. "I shall serve you to the best of my ability."

Robb nodded and grew more serious. "These are tough times, to be sure, Tomas. You will have to learn fast. But I'm sure you're father has told you all of this and more already." Suddenly lightening up again, he continued, speaking to Oliver this time. "What say we head to the training yard, Ser? We could show your boy how this squiring business goes, and at the same time, we could keep our skills sharp."

Oliver looked surprised for a second before he slowly broke into a mischievous grin. "OK then, I accept your challenge Lord Tarly. It will be good experience for you Tomas, and a reminder that you serve Lord Tarly now. Still, I thoroughly intend to show to you that your old man isn't a pushover."
He moved to the door. "I shall meet you down in the yard when you are ready." Closing the door behind him, he left the two alone.
Tomas looked up to Lord Tarly for guidance.

ooc: I really have no idea exactly the details of what a squire does besides help his lord "prepare"?
Tarly sent for his light mail and blunted sword. He planned on getting prepared here, and then going down to the yard. While they were waiting, he eyed his new squire who looked a tad nervous. Robb smiled. "You're father is right, Tomas. You serve me now, and that will take some getting used to. However, that does not mean I should replace you're father in life. I will be more like a brother to you, if that suits you. A boy must always appreciate his father, while he has one. Believe me, I know..." he trailed off, staring into the distance. Shaking his head, Robb broke from his thoughts. This sort of talk is no way to greet the boy, he chided himself. Turning back to Tomas, he asked, "Have you much training with sword and shield, yet?"

"A fair amount yes," admitted the boy. "My father and grandfather have been quite insistent about it. I have trained daily since the age of six."
The armour was brought through by a servant. Tomas handed a fine shirt of mail to his Lord, and then paused, wondering what to do next.

ooc: what does he do? lol put it on robb?
Robb smiled at the boy's indecision and proceeded to instruct him throughout the tedious process. Robb asked him questions during, trying to get him to open up. "It is well that you have trained hard, Tomas. In these next few weeks you will be training with me daily. I am not a great swordsman myself, but I think I can teach you a thing or two," he said, smiling.

Tomas did not smile. "I look forward to learning with you my Lord," was all he said as they finished up the armouring process.

Robb shrugged at the boy's reserved nature during their first meeting. He liked Tomas, anyways. Well, I like pretty much everybody. Except for fucking Horas Blackwood, he thought. The two rose and headed to the training yard.

Ser Oliver is stood waiting for them, dressed similarly in light armour. A fair few men have gathered about to watch this clash between two of the Far Reach's more esteemed nobility. "Well, lets not beat about the bush then, get to it Tarly!" he calls out. OOC - to the battles forum.

A battered looking tinkers wagon approaches the entrance to Horn Hill. It is searched by the guards and they discovered two youths and two men, along with some smithing equipment and swords and shields, though the men themselves are unarmed.
The younger looking man has a straggled beard and bandaged side and claims to be Lord Commander Benfry Smith of the Kingsguard. He asks to speak with Lord Tarly or whomever is in charge in the garrison.
