Two knights at the front door acknowledge Frey's presence. "If you'll forgive us sir, we'll need to search you."

He made no attempt to stop them, even raising his arms and directing them to the dagger at his waist and a second on his left fore-arm.

"Well hold on to these while you have your talk." said one of the men, politely but firmly. Lord Frey is shown inside.
Francis is seated behind his writing table, quill in hand, he stands as Frey approaches. "Lord Frey, forgive me if I don't shake hands." he gestures at the quill before saying, "ink. Please have a seat, what can I do for you?"

He sits, then places his hands on the arms of his chair. "First, you can accept my apology for the misunderstanding at the meeting earlier. I know that my position as head taxman leaves me in an unpopular position with anyone who likes their coin, but I fear I am still used to running my own house. 20 years of studying the transfer currency and yet I cannot master the art of saying 'please'." He seemed quite sincere in his apology.

"I could have been a little more cordial in explanation as well. The balance between lords and throne is always a delicate one, but particularly of late. Perhaps you don't remember the days of King Callen, where he arrested landed gentry on their own property, proposed small folk on the council seven forbid, and set up that ludicrous master of colonies position. Things are just starting to get back to normal with the relatively laid back regency of Lord Piers. As for Lord Irwyn, well he took your troops lack of action at King's Landing rather personally, I can't say I blame him, but lets be honest, you are not a martial man. But then neither am I. I presume that's not all you have for me?"

"As you are well aware, I have long had a clear interest in expanding my house's standing, ocassionally through somewhat amoral means. Trading, prospecting, administrating for other houses, overseeing the occasional oversees venture. Obviously, you are aware of the Blackcrown affair and for that, I must once again apologize. I believe my port wouldve been a boon to all in the area, but alas..." He shrugged. "All lords are fearful of losing the only thing that seperates themselves from the Small Folk. Overall though, I have made a tidy fortune..." He withdrew a letter from his person and placed it upon the table. "It appears my reputation as a radical entrepreneur has followed me to King's Landing."

"Your reputation as a meddler in the financial affairs of others is well noted." Francis says, as he picks up the letter and examines it.

To the Master of Coin Lord Walder Frey
I apologize that I am not able to give you this message directly or am able to give you the proposition face to face. However know that I have utmost respect for you and your craft. I have after my own fashion been able to contact members of the Free Cities who wish to make greater trade possible between themselves and Westeros. If you are interested please contact one of my men whenever you are ready.
Lord Sylas Bolton

"What is this supposed to mean exactly?' Francis asked, raising his eyebrow and pointing to the note.

"When someone like Sylas Bolton asks for a favor, I like to be certain I'm not being asked to lead a killing spree to the Red Keep. Roose Stark is likewise offering to aid me in a business venture, though to be fair, I approached him. He thinks that if I help him exploit the Far North, he will be able to rebuild his forces. Neither of the pair has convinced me that I'm not being drawn into another maudlin rebellion."

"I doubt either Roose Stark or Sylas Bolton give a flying fig about mercantile, so your suspicion has the ring of truth to it. But this isn't enough to issue arrest warrants for... or take more aggressive action for that matter."

"You are Master of Whisperers. Consider this the first whisper of many."

"I see." Francis said, "And do you want the customary coinage with which whisperers are paid, or is your game something else?"

He laughed. "Surely you jest! Standard coinage, indeed... no, this whisper will pay for itself. If they have legitimate interests, then I am a wealthier man, and if you discover otherwise, I have saved a fortune and possibly the Iron Throne from another attack."
