Damien Fossoway - (b. April 499) a young squire in the service of Lord Tyrell's retinue, he befriended Cole in the war in the North against Wull. He is often sullen and moody.
Illisa Tyrell - (b. October 499) Cole's sister. She takes from her mother's side of the family, the Harlaws, in that she loves to sail, but has a Tyrell lady-like quality to her.
Gurn the Halfgiant - (b. unknown) Gurn is currently part of Aethen's band. He speaks little, finding the Westerosi language tiring, but he understands it well enough. Gurn does not know (nor care) much about his father, his mother was a giant who shunned him when she saw how small he was compared with other giants.
Old Man Death - (b. unknown) An old withered man from the Iron Islands, he was given the name Old Man Death by those who sail under him in his small, rotting boat. Not much else is known about him.
Velarios Vandis - (b. June 487) An elaborate and overly dramatic Braavosi. Was a reknowned water-dancer and sailer until a personal matter drove him away from Braavos. He has been attracted by the insane idea to travel across the Sunset Sea.

Ser Cleon Tyrell - (b. February 471) Ser Cole's father, he is called the Clumsy, a well-earned title, he is not the most graceful of people, but he is a noted general, and is well loved by the men he leads. He has grown fatter and as he has gotten older, and the top of his head is nearly bare of his brown hair.
Ser Garen Oakheart - (b. May 485) Ser Garen the Grave he is known as, because he seems quite unaware of the concept of humour. Though it has been speculated that this is merely a front to hide his subtle ironic jokes. He is reputed to be a skilled swordsman and jouster.
