The manor of Lotho Prestayn is a lavish, 3 storied building with storehouse, gardens and slave house. It has been owned by the Prestayn family for around a hundred years, and expensive ornaments and coloured carpets, as well as plentiful supply of food, garden water fountain, and the presence of guards patrolling the exterior pay homage to the family's wealth, which has come through buying and selling everything from slaves, to wine, to marble.

A horse driven cart draws up outside the manor, and Lotho Prestayn is admitted by several guards. He orders them to unload his cargo which includes several slaves. The slaves are taken off to the slave house, blindfolded with their hands still bound. One of the slaves, a large man who has lost an ear, attempts to head-but a guard, refusing to leave the cart. He is knocked unconscious, before being dragged towards the house.

A peculiar hooded stranger is seen on the premises of Prestayn Manor several days in a row, circling around and observing the routine of the guards and incoming carts of goods.
