Hi. ;D
Edrick died in his mad quest for the Iron Throne, so I thought I'd make up for it by reincarnating as the wealthiest man in all the Seven Kingdoms. Literally.
Since technically, I'm a Blackwood bannerman, I recieved the password to this board, so here I am. As I'm playing a Frey, the only house as treacherous as the Boltons, I thought I should lay out how I intend to play the character.
1. Goldfinger is a very ambitious businessman, but he is not very greedy and powerhungry. He is satisfied serving the Iron Throne and will not betray them.
2. Having said that, they ARE intent on growing as a house, perhaps one day becoming Wardens of the North. Goldfinger is already making plans to build a canal from Ironman's Bay to the Bite, thus acquiring a kingdom's ransom in crossing tolls. The Smith has decided that the task can be achieved without any real trouble, though it will still take several years.
3. Goldfinger insists on neutrality in war UNLESS there is a direct threat to the Trident or House Frey or someone threatens his financial interests. However, a direct order from the Lord Blackwood could probably do the trick.
4. Goldfinger is not evil or insane. In fact he is quite an honorable man and is known for keeping his word. That's why people keep doing business with him. However, he can be very aggressive in expanding his profits. Especially when you wouldn't do business with him...
5. Where does he get the money? Aside from what he already makes off the Crossing, he makes a fortune in mining, foreign trade, and building toll bridges and gates all across the Seven Kingdoms. If the Dornish weren't there, he'd build a gate in the Prince's Pass.
6. What does he want? For the Freys to be a true great house independant of ties to Tully or Blackwood or whoever.
7. Ally or foe? As the Freys have been a great house for much longer and could probably kick Blackwood's ass in a straight fight, I think it's important we establish a bond between our houses aside from "King says I'm in charge, so shut the fuck up!"
I notice Horas' mother is a Frey. I like the idea that Goldfinger is actually his first cousin and that the two houses have very friendly relations, but I notice noone's touched the primary family line. Any particular reations?
Also, since Goldfinger rarely gets involved in politics, I think that sets up very well the notion that the Freys very much favor the Blackwoods as true Riverlords. It's partially a facade, since the Freys seek independance, but they are still loyal allies, if very prickly at times.
So that's Lord Walder Frey, AKA Goldfinger. Hope you get along with him!
And I have NO intention of even touching the Frey Genealogy...
