He had raised them in King's Landing. After the initial attack on their well being, they laid low. But with the help of the Ghostboy, who remembered everyone, their numbers grew in secret. They were no longer just a gang. They were a Guild. A force of the downtrodden and less fortunate. They were those with fury in their hearts from their conditions, from their paupery, from their endeavors. Through it all, the Ghostboy, in keeping in the mindset of the Marvelous Knave, had built up the numbers of the men. Soon, in King's Landing alone, there were more than four hundred bastards, none of them knowing of the identity of any others, but all knowing of the others' existence through the Ghostboy. He was the only link between them, lest someone be paid for information, and he was scarcely seen, and never looking the same each time. One thing set the Ghostboy apart from the others: he could not be bought.
The Marvelous Knave had been in response with the Ghostboy, in his usual way. After he had regained his senses, the Knave had found three men he could trust completely, also unbuyable men, in the style of the Ghostboy. They were bid to travel, and gather information on possibilities. On agents. They were named Spectre, Wraith and Shadow. Spectre went South, towards Dorne, and his duties were the same as his others: appeal to the idea of a brotherhood, appeal to their desires, gain their trust, so that they could be unified in the face of a greater adversity. Wraith went north, towards Moat Cailen and Winterfell, but staying away from the Wall. That was an eventuality that would come to pass. Shadow would move back and forth between the Riverlands and the Reaches, gaining influence, for Shadow was quite a looker and a charmer, and could appeal to the hearts of men.
The Marvelous Knave would stay in the West for a time, gathering support there, with a smiling face and kindly words, both genuine. The Marvelous Knave did care about the poor and the oft-taken-advantage-of. He wanted to help. But to be helped, one needed proper leadership, leadership that would cater to the people, and not just the richest portion of them. The broken and the disadvantaged would love this sparkling paramount to an enriched way of life, where they did not have to worry about the threats of those of a higher caste, for they had the Knave to help them. Though they did not know the others, they all knew the Knave, even when he was not the Knave. He came to them in different forms. A boy, a man, an old woman, a virgin, a soldier. His disguises were impeccable, and though he never left an address or marked place, he had a way of making an appearance when he was needed, with a solution and a smile. The commoners loved the Knave.

The Black Bastards is no more. What they formerly were is now called the Guild of the Common.
In seven months' time, the Guild of the Common grows very large.**
Mortimer Pyke gains Apprentice in Disguise Skill and Beginner Leadership
** This term of months began just before the Tourney at Lannisport, where Mortimer regained his memory. The numbers are as follows, so correct me if they seem off, or unrealistic. All numbers are approximate. In many cases, the numbers is larger, where a "Guild Member" might have a family, and each of the family members are guild members as well, but these numbers reflect the heads of households as the 'Contacts'.
King's Landing: 1700 guild members. (This one has been growing for some time)
The Westerlands: 450 guild members. (They have been the quickest to show support, as they feel the heavy weight of the 'cruel' nobility.)
The Mander: 270 guild members. (Reasons for quick assimilation is the feeling of hatred over the split and the attack on the Shield Islands, which have been left relatively uncared for.)
The Far Reach: Between 70 and 130. (They are hard to convince.)
The Riverlands: 80 guild members. (Hard load on ole Shadow.)
Dorne: 200 guild members. (Many are afraid of the tyranny and unfairness in the leadership of the Princess.)
North: 50 guild members. (So spread out, and the commoners and nobility feel at least, more equal than in most places.)[/
