Crow's Nest

The castle of Crow's Nest, the seat of house Morrigen, lies on the farthermost point of Cape Wrath.

The sun sank slowly over the horizon, throwing a rich and brilliant array of colors out against the darkening sky. Gideon Morrigen stood watching the sunset, watching every detail, making note of every color, and storing it deep in his memory. A faint smile passed over his lips, he always felt at peace watching the sunset. This would be the last time he watched the sun set from Crow's Nest. In the morning he would depart for the Citadel to become a Maester.

His thought's were disturbed as Maester Wendell, his teacher and mentor for as long as he could remember, came to stand beside him. Gideon was a capable swordsman and could handle a lance, but his strength was his mind, so his father had put him under the maesters wings.

"Having your last goodbyes, lad?" the maester asked short of breath after climbing the stairs of the tower. " I remember when I had to leave my home, the thought was unbearable at the time, but when I finally stood outside the Citadel, I knew that I had found a new home"

"It's not that, maester. I've known that I was leaving for the Citadel since the first few months that you took me under your wings. I know that this is my place in the world, for what else is there for me. I just wanted to have one last look, to take with me from my old life, as a new one begins in the morning. I'll return to hall with you now."

Gideon took the maesters arm and helped him down the stairs.

Conn Morrigen laid on the floor of the wine cellar sleeping when the new Maester came down to get him. There was business to take care of the maester explained. Conn waved his hand.

"You take care of that, I have a head ache" Conn answered and opened his eyes, showing the red-speckled eyes. "Where have the girl gone"

"She left hours ago, resuming her responsibilities when you fell asleep" the maester answered and shook his head.

"Tell her to come to my room tonight, we never finished what we started" Conn answered with a smile, before he closed his eyes again.

The maester shook his head one more time when the newly made Lord of Crow's Nest started snoring.
