Olander considered his liege lord's words carefully before forming his reply. "That is entirely within the realm of my abilities," he said as a servant brought forth a platter of warm bread and dried fruit. "Though I am concerned about the defenses of the North," the crannogman admitted. "A force must be stationed in the Neck without fail, and I would strongly urge that we protect the Stoney Shores, as well. From what I hear, these black-masked basilisks came by enormous ships."

Roose poured Olander a goblet of mulled ale, and then himself one. "My proposition is this. A force at Moat Cailen, a reactionary force on the western coast, most likely stationed at the Stoney Shore, and one led south to aid the southron kingdoms as well as King Rickon." He sat down on the stone chair in the Great hall, and called his steward to bring a smaller table for him and Olander.

The crannogman nodded along in agreement. "It might be worth stationing some men along the cliffs of Cape Kraken to keep watch over the sea, as a warning for any force sailing up the coast," he suggested, taking a tiny sip of his ale. Olander preferred his ale served chilled, like most, and would quicker mull wine or cider, but he drank without complaint.

OOC: Dammit, I was thinking cider, but my fingers typed ale.
"Good, I'll have Lord Flint see to it....anything else?"

The question came quickly to Olander's lips: "What fashion of naval force do we possess in the western sea?"

"A few ships here and there....but nothing significant..." Roose looked Olander in the eyes..."There is another naval force though in the north...one not sworn to Winterfell...."

The crannogman nodded, tugging at the wisps of hair coating his chin. "And so far from their home, we might find common cause," Olander stated. "As it were, my sister still remains in King's Landing. If I have your leave, I would dispatch a raven instructing her to bring your offer to the cold kraken?"

"What offer is that?" Roose asked, though he figured that Olander already would know what it would be.

"One of mutual protection," Olander said plainly. "Bear Island lacks the manpower to stand alone should the Basilisks set on it, and the North's fleet is all but non-existent."

"That was my thought as well. We provide extra men for the garrison, they can help protect us with ships." Roose said, toying with his drink.

He inclined his head briefly. "Myrrah will see to it," he assured.
"If there is naught else..." Olander began before stopping, as if by sudden recollection. "How fares the Lady Stark? I trust well? She is some eight months pregnant is she not?"

Robett Flint stopped and took in the sight of Winterfell. He raised his hand to show his men to halt too. The journey from Widow's Watch had been rather uneventful, a few frostbites and a sprain or two, but other than that they had had a good march. The men listened to Robett, and excepted him as their leader though Robett suspected that had to do with his father more than him. He could see the large group of men that had gathered outside the stronghold and headed toward the gate.
