Callen rode through the gatehouse of Castle Manderly. "I want food and drink for my men. Where is Lord Manderly?"

A warrior of the house called simply Walrus answers, "Lord Butler Mannerly has travel to the Vale to arrange a marriage for his sister. I apologize for him, my king. I am the Castellan, can I help you?"

Callen dismounted. "Yes, where may I find Jerard Manderly?"

Walrus nodded in surprise, "Get Jerard."
After almost twenty minutes round Jerard caming huffing and puffing from the town itself, He bows so deep he almost falls, "My King wishes to speak."
Lord Bolton eyes the fat man with blatant disgust.

"He is not a true Northman, isn`t he?" -Marten whispers to Lord Bolton, deciding that it would be useful to score some points with him.

"Jerard Manderly, for yours, and your houses loyalty to the crown during the Northern rebellion, I invite you to take a place on the small council as master of coin."
================
Later, after Callen had been put up in some comfortable chambers over looking the harbour he invited Marten Lannister to join him.

Callen looked up and smiled. His trip to the North had helped him regain his composure, though the price to restore Benjen was high, and though Callen would never heal from the wound it dealt him, he now had a sense of purpose. He looked like a young man with the knowledge of an old one. "May I offer you a seat and some wine? The Manderly's keep a particularly fine cellar here."

"Indeed, these Manderlys don`t quite fit the Northman stereotype, Lord Bolton would be delighted if he didn`t have to deal with them, I am sure." -Marten speaks after accepting the wine.

Callen laughed, "You don't really fit the northern stereotype either I must say. Although I can see why you would want to come here. It does have an appeal to it. Hell, I would come north if I was king. Adventure, wildling women, and White Harbour doesn't have nearly the same stench as King's Landing, though I'm trying to remedy that."

"As a second son from minor branch of Lannisters, I need to forge my destiny myself, and I want it to be worthy of my birthright. North is part of my heritage, but more importantly, it seems to present greater opportunities than the South. I offered my services to the Regent of the North, as he implied that there is abandomed land to be gained by ambitious and worthy men. Still, my loyalty is foremost to my King, and I am not sure if Lord Bolton likes me, actually." -He drinks the wine, speaking slowly as if trying to wage every word, though laughs at the end.

"I'm not sure if Lord Bolton likes anyone, so you are not alone." Callen looked thoughtful for a moment. "I'm assuming Lord Piers spoke to you before you left King's Landing?"

"Yes, he mentioned that he could use someone keeping tabs on Lord Bolton. Lord Piers is old friend of my father, so I have trust in his judgement"

"I ask that you trust in me as well. I agree with Lord Piers, Lord Bolton must be watched, he is a capable man, but an untrustworthy one. I doubt that he will rebel against me, he sees no profit in that, but I wouldn't put it past him to bully the other northern lords. And remember to be careful, a good lord must be both a fox and a lion. A fox to sniff out the traps, and a lion to scare off the wolves, or in this case, the flayed men."

"Tommorow I make my way north to the Wall. Do your duty well, and you may find yourself with a greater reward than Lord Bolton could ever offer you."
