"Betrayed an oath that you were forced to swear at the age of 12 or be beheaded. Some would question the validity of that oath." Tech looks at Aranya sadly, "I do not doubt it, you will have your vengeance, and it will taste sweet."
"Come with me to my village it is over there." Tech stands and begins to walk through the muck of the swamp.

Aranya nodded. She glanced over her shoulder, where her people and horses were waiting, and followed him.

As she gazed at the tall sentinels, her vision blurred, tinged with green.
Yohn walked into a room full of children learning. They stared up at their septon with deep interest on their faces. Yohn walked around them and buried his hatchet deep into the septa.
Aranya opened her eyes, tight-lipped. Her eyes were gleaming. She gazed at Tech without speaking.

As he made more soup and stew, her eyes went back to the trees. Her companions would have followed from a distance, she knew. They were somewhere there, beyond those astonishingly tall trees. The trees seemed to gaze back at her, and then her vision blurred again.
Callen stood alone in an empty field. Lots of men lay strewn about the ground. Callen looked around, then laughed. He laughed for a long time, loud and endless. Then Callen realized gnats had surrounded him, biting him. He slapped at them, but they wouldn't be shaken off. They were crawling over him, under his clothes, into his hair, biting, biting. Finally, Callen began to run.
The sentinels, weirwoods and pines bloomed back into full focus, and Aranya gazed at them with cold eyes. She would have to see the weirwood later.

Arriving at a small village the people come and greet Tech. Tech introduces the people to Aranya. They welcome her and throw a feast in her honor. Serving mostly fish, and mushrooms it is still a good spread.

Aranya nodded to those who spoke and ate, but in relative silence, her eyes heavy and inscrutable. As the others frolicked and danced, she gazed across at Tech. "So you are a crannogman. I wondered. Why do you welcome me?"

"Your third eye, and we would never harm the babe that grows inside of you." Tech eats more before continuing through a nearly full mouth, "We have manners. Why do you think you are not welcome here? Do you feud with us? Have you ever brought us harm?"

Aranya shrugged. "I am here to kill the man you have been protecting. I did not expect welcome here."
She a slice of fish and speared it on her dagger, gazing at it for a moment before eating it. "Tell me, Tech, how you know so much about me. You know I am the Three-Eyed Mother, and even that my husband is dead." Her eyes flashed. "Did you know those shamans?"

"I saw them, on a scale. And I saw them make the mountians angry, but I did not know them." Tech looks at her with a frown on his face, "You know we protect him. How do you know this? How did we protect him? From what dangers?"

"We have already discussed that he is an oathbreaker," Aranya's fish was reduced to a fine skeleton. She had picked it clean. "A murderer. Your people could have killed him. But no matter. I am curious to know how you know what I am. You are a seer, I can tell that much. Were you born with greensight?"

"I was not talking about the 'monster' but about your assumption that we are his guardians. You continue to answer questions I do not ask." Tech shrugs, "I see things. I always have. And even in the neck have we heard of Aranya Royce of Duskendale."

"I see." She studied him. "I assumed you were his guardians because he wasn't dead, as he should be. Forgive me if that was a wrong assumption."

"What you must think of us crannogmen I do not know. You are surprised we welcome you instead of murder you. And this Sands is not killed, so clearly we must be friends, because the evil little frogs kill all who enter." Tech chuckles darkly, "We do not eat the blood of our enemies. And do not control the weather. We are just men and women who live their lives in home very different from your own."

"You are not evil little frogs," Aranya said calmly. "Could you pass those mushrooms, please?"

There was a rustle, and a tall black courser came trotting out from the trees. Behind him a man and a woman rode shaggy garrons, and then three pack mules. The horses and mules were tethered together, and the man and young woman approached. A falcon perched on the man's shoulder.
"These are Fallon and Perra, my companions on this journey," Aranya said. She had been reluctant to reveal them, but it seemed she could trust this man.
