Aeron led them through Winterfell's grounds. Snow was now drifting down in large quantities, gracing his grey, tattered cloak. Finally they found themselves before Benjen Stark's solar. He knocked, "my lord, I-I have a message here...from the Citadel."

"Aeron?", the lord called out when he heard knocking, "What news from the Citadel?"

Piers follows the Maester in and smiles at Lord Benjen, "Greetings Lord. Have you heard of the chaos to the south? What do you make of all this war talk?"

Aeron opened the door to the solar and held it for Piers and Lilith to enter. He then took the message he had untied from the white raven and handed it to Lord Stark.

Lilith surveyed the quietly appointed but comfortable solar, and felt its warmth. There were rumors that Winterfell was heated by hotsprings and here she could certainly believe it.
She waited for the news, expecting and dreading to hear that her new husband was off again, hoping against hope she might snatch a few more days with him to feel her way through this new creation that was her marriage.

Benjen's eyes scanned the letter quickly, his eyes growing bigger towards the letter's conclusion. At its end he looked up at his visitors and muttered under his breath, "Ice...and fire." He didn't mention any of the contents of the raven but he would infer everything in what he next said.
Looking back at the Maester he said, "Do me a favor, Aeron? Start writing ravens. Have Lords Karstark, Flint, Umber, and Manderly raise eight hundred foot and two hundred horse each. I'll write to my good-father, Edwyle, personally, and request he calls up the same foot and twice as many horse. Hopefully this raven will get to Torrhen's Square in good time." He turned his back and started to don riding gloves. "Call up two thousand of our own foot and a thousand horse. We ride south as quick as the men are trained and prepped."
As he left the door with his squire, Ser Erlen Tallhart, he turned around oncemore and said, "This time I won't kneel to the dragon."

Aeron bowed. "I'm here to serve, but I'm just a part of my lady Lilith Royc- Lilith Bettley's band. Shouldn't your maester Piper do this?"

Piers shakes his head, "Interesting." Turning he took Lilith in his arms and held her close, "It is time my wife. Let me just hold you for a moment. I think I will be at Casterly Rock for the foreseeable future."
He held her close and looked at the too-handsome Maester, glancing significantly at Lilith he mouthed some words at Aeron, 'Kill You'.

Aeron looked at Piers quizckly. He raised an eyebrow, but said nothing.

Lilith in a tone of utter exasperation with Aeron says "The band can spare your services for a moment, my dear maester, please help Lord Stark in any way you can, it is the least we can do to repay our good host's very gracious hospitality. We exist to serve the greater good."
Lilith practically pushes the maester out the door.

When Aeron had finally left, and Lord Stark had graciously and conveniently gone to see about writing to Edwyle, Lilith turned to her husband.
"I hate war. I hate cleaning up the chaos that boys who think they are being men create. I hate the slaughter of friends and loved ones, and the casualness with which death stalks both sides." Lilith held tight to her love. "Go my beloved, keep us all safe from this latest threat to our land that the Gods have been so merciless to impose upon us. We will soon join you at the Rock for I suspect more clean up will be needed."
She laughed a rather thin laugh and looked at him with a rather sad twinkle in her eye. "We have pieces of furniture yet to try."

Piers sits down in the Lord's comfortable chair, "So did you push the good maester out so we could have one last moment of intimacy? Or so we could have one last moment of intimacy?" His wink and lewd tone let Lilith know exactly what Piers is implying with the second statement.
"I will protect you and Petra. The rest of the world can burn if the two of you are safe. I know you won't want to hear that but is the truth." Piers smiled wanly, "Be safe in your journey. I love you."

Aeron smiled to himself as he went out the door, he was happy for Lilith, if anyone deserved such happiness it was her. Bettley sure is a piece of work though thought Aeron. What does he think? That I love Lilith?. To be honest with himself Aeron did love her, but it had never evolved beyond a platonic love. They had fought to save lives together, travelled together, and had wept together when they were unable to save someone. She had become part of his family, and they shared the sort of love that siblings did. The same camraderie workers did, the same relationship that a teacher and a student have, the same caring the two friends have. Don't worry Bettley she's all yours he thought to himself. He proceeded to the rookery and started writing out the letters Lord Stark had commisioned him to do.

Lilith curled up on Piers's lap, feeling his warmth and his lust. "Now a chair is an interesting piece of furniture, but I suspect there are even better ones in Casterly Rock, ones where we won't make lords or maesters blush."
She sat for a while longer and said, "I am still not quite sure how all of this has come about but I know the safety of where our very different worlds come together. Thank you with all my heart for your sheltering and know you have a haven with me always."
They kissed gently once more, lay still in each others arms, and finally roused when they heard rather loud steps come up the stairs.
They stood to greet Lord Stark and then proceeded back down to the camp.
