Stepping up to Lilith, Piers grabbed her hands and whispered to her, "I tried. I warned you." He smiled sadly at her for one short moment.
Stepping out of the dark Piers smiled turned truly warm and his eyes began to dance. He scooped up Petra and spun them both around, his cane fell to the ground forgotten, "Hello Petra. Have you slain any giants today? If you haven't I can show you how to take down Uncle X, in two moves." And he laughed deeply.

Petra looked a little confused, and then laughed from joy at being spun, and being teased.
"Petra, my dear, this is the very Brave Ser Beetle, your father," said Lilith, her voice almost overcome with emotion.
The child in Piers's arms stilled. She looked etherially beautiful with her mother's dark hair and lovely face, and the beetle blue eyes Piers had only seen in Xavier, in his own mirror and of course, in his father.
"Hullo father," she said in a soft voice, vividly connecting the past and the present. Her small hands stroked his beard. "Why did you wait so long?" That question hung momentarily in the air when she followed it with another, "Can you really teach me to take down Uncle X? He's very good." She look wide-eyed up at him.
Despite their color, they weren't his father's eyes, though, they shared a concern for him he could only remember in Lilith's and on occasion in Elena's eyes.

"I have no good reason for staying away. I think you will have to punish me for my tardiness." Piers replied laughing merrily at her, "As to Xavier, he is good. I am better. You see X just fights with his muscle, I fight with my head. And Uncle X head is full of rocks. I have seen them, it just gravel in there."
Piers starts examining Petra's head, "What have you got in your head, rocks like Xavier or brains like me?" He starts shaking her gently and puts his ear to her head, "I don't hear any shaking."

Petra's clear laugh rang out across the camp. She seemed to have the same weakness for Piers's nonsense that her mother did. More heads popped out of tents.
"Some ale, and a bite to eat" called Lilith.
The three of them sat down by the campfire, Piers and Lilith shoulder to shoulder, Petra with her bottom on Piers's lap, her feet on Lilith's. She babbled, asking questions at a mile a minute and then almost nodding off. Piers talked pure piffle, making both Petra and Lilith laugh uproariousily and bringing a smile to even Xavier's hard to tease face. Others in the camp joined round and shared the ale and simple food of the occasion.
It was a moment that couldn't last but was ohh so very sweet. Lilith felt like she'd never been happier.

The next morning Piers sat staring at Lilith sleeping. He was flipping a coin between his fingers movement always helped him think. He was surprised, he had slept well last night even though Petra had slept in the same tent. Piers had planned for more vigorous activities last night.
Lord Baldwin had been right about family though, Piers chuckled softly. He wondered if he would have felt the same if this had happened in his wild youth. Seeing Lilith stirring, he smiled easily. "So love, would marriage suit us? I am not sure myself."

"Yes," came the answer before Lilith had a chance to think, to pull it back. She blushed (and was surprised that she even could anymore).
She gathered her wits about her. "There are probably many perfectly logical reasons not to marry, and if you wish to enumerate them I will listen oh so carefully to your excellent reasoning, but..." there was a catch in her voice, "In my heart I am already married to you. You are the love of my life and the father of my child. It would bring ease to have the unstated stated."

Piers looks down at his lap for several seconds. Then smiling he looks back up at Lilith, "I desire you greatly right now. So I guess I am in concordance."
Shifting to a kneeling position he smiled at her. Reaching back and touching her, he makes a ring appear from behind her ear. Placing it on her finger, he kisses her hands, "I know I can do this now. Just don't expect perfection, I am deeply flawed; like the diamond on your ring. Its a metaphor." He laughed.

Lilith stared down a the stone, large and glittering in the morning sunshine. A spark leaped through it, bringing the jagged flaw within to life.
She looked up at him, her dark eyes warm and loving. "Imperfection is what allows lightening, my love."
Petra began to stir and then opened her eyes.
"Hullo, my dear one," Lilith greeted her, "Your father and I have some news. It turns out you will have two very dull married parents quite," her eyes, holding a dancing gleam, glanced up at Piers, "quite soon."
"Good," said Petra. "I'm tired of beating up the other children for calling you remarkable."
Lilith let out a gale of laughter.

"Dull I never agreed to dull. You be dull I will stay interesting." He stood picking up his cane. Looking out the door of the tent. "So love, do you want me to go find us a septon, or would you like a big wedding with all our family and friends?"
Turning to smile at Lilith, Piers continued, "I have heard the wedding ceremony is very important to women. So I will leave it to you to decide. It will be your day." He winked at her.

A rider came thundering into camp, "the King is dead! Slain by his brother! Blood, fire and blood in King's Landing!"

Lilith shook her head and could only laugh. "My day does not seem to be entirely my day." But then she looked at Piers, love and fear filling her eyes.
"I think we will both be needed soon but I claim an hour more of your time. I hear the Starks are like the Royces, praying to gods both old and new. Find, if you will, my love, the Winterfell septon and meet us in the Godswood in a quarter hour. I find that my reception can wait but I am impatient for my wedding day."

ooc: moved to the God's Wood
Fifteen minutes later Lilith and Petra stood in the dappled sunshine of the Godswood. They had rapidly changed into dresses Piers had sent them and had hastily brushed their hair. Petra's ribbon seemed not to want to stay in place and was sliding off her shiny hair.
All the members of the band were standing in the woods with them, Xavier taking the spot of the groom's man. "Somebody needs to stand up with your father today," he told Petra.

OOC: Mind if I join in?
IC:Maester Aeron Harlaw stood behind Petra and put a hand on her small shoulder. He was fond of the young girl, often giving her the little crafts and he created in his spare time. He had spent his years as part of Lilith Royce's band Soon to be Lilith Bettley Tyrek reminded himself. His once new grey robes were now tattered and faded with travel. He had learned much of healing during his years at the citadel and had become a master at 21, one of the youngest ever. He had then found Lilith Royce during the Siege of Casterly Rock and had decided to try his hand at being part of her traveling band of healers. He had never regretted it, and was now determined to remain a part of it as long as he could.
