Theon nods, "and he is supported by villains even more cowardly than himself. Harlaw wishes the boy king to rally his supporters against Horas. His Grace's last proclamation has seemed as ineffective as one would imagine it would be."

Odhar's brow furrowed a little. "Is that not what the King's proclamation sought to do?"

Theon grins, "I believe Harlaw does not think it was worded in a way that would strongly motivate the lords. Tell them to come to the Vale, to gaze on the king with their own eyes and know where their loyalty should lie. The boy is young, but he is old enough to know what is happening and to speak for himself. If the boy speaks wisely and truely, and commands those who come to him to fight against Horas, what choice will they have?"

"All of those who are loyal to the King are welcome in the Vale... Though I could argue it would be best if those who are loyal stay in the field... To better offer strategic flexibility, if you will.

A guard steps in the room. "Good to see you again Lord Royce".
OOC: this would be after Theon have left.

Brandon-- assuming the guard is you, and I'll start us our own thread to keep this one clean.

Theon shrugs, and finding the meeting to be of little value to either side excuses himself.

Danwell shifted uneasily in his seat. He'd not been in the Vale before and found the place and people cold and icy. Even though he was a sworn King's Man they looked upon him with suspicion which became annoying after a while. The King's Men were a short-lived organisation and had been mostly wiped out after the coup. Though they did not say it, Danwell feared most thought the King's men at worst complict in the coup or at best negligent in allowing it to happen.
So they weren't trusted to guard the King and didn't fit in anywhere else either. He'd seen little or no sign of the Ser Tytos. He hadn't even known he'd survived the massacre until he'd overheard a comment from one of the squires.
He sighed and took another swig of ale.

Patrek sat next to Danwell with his own tankard of ale. He had just talked to Brandon and the fool of a man had claimed that he would compose a song of their misadventures. It was enough to make him cringe. "What is on your mind, Captain?"

Danwell gestured irritably around him, encompassing all the Vale "It's these Valemen. They seem to move as fast as their glaciers. How many months have they sat and waited. What for, I ask you!" he said angrily

Patrek shrugs. "I would not know, never been a man of strategy. But I agree with you , they should have moved beyond the Bloody Gate by now. Winter makes things awful at the mountain road though".

Danwell grunted sourly "That's true enough - It's as cold as an Other's tit up here" he hugged himself for warmth.
"Still, you're from here aren't you? I keep forgetting. I didn't mean any offense on your countrymen Patrek. I just want to go home. That is unless Eloise has already sold everything and run off" he muttered gloomily

Patrek shrugged of the apology. "No offense taken. We are King's Men insulting each others respective countrymen should not bother us eh? I am a Redfort of the Red Keep now, as long as it will last anyway".

Danwell grinned suddenly "Perhaps we should ask the King to repaint the Keep when we take it back. Red is such an ominous colour. Perhaps the Green Keep wouldn't get fought over so much" he roared in sudden laughter, and Patrek realises how far in his cups Danwell is

Brandon smiled and downed his ale. "Haven't heard you make a joke without being dolorous before. The idea show some merit, though Redfort of the Green Keep is not that catchy".
