The ancient Godswood of Runestone contains the last known weirwoods of the Vale, and they are amongst the few that grow south of the neck anywhere.

During the funeral, Yohn spends his time in the old Godswood, staring intently at the strange, ghoulish face carved into the largest Weirwood tree. He also gathers up some of the fallen red leaves, collecting them.

Petra in her garden in King's Landing stares at her tree. "We're coming to see you" she says, "Momma wants to go to the funeral."

Petra can see Yohn's face, but strangely, it is eyeless -- just smooth skin where his bronze eyes should be. And he beckons her.

She nods and goes to get ready for the trip.

Aranya strode into godswood, silent as a shadow. She made straight for the heart tree, the white weirwood.
"Yohn," she called.

Petra slips away from her mother and goes to the Weirwood as well.

There was no sign of Yohn, except a very crude face carving in an old elm near the wall.

Yohn now wanders back into the wood, carrying a blanket. He is dirty with little bits of bark stuck in his hair, and he's back in his brown smock instead of his leather jerkin.

Petra touches the face gently, trying to talk through it as she did the sapling in her garden. It felt different, very old, and like other people besides Yohn lived in it.

"What do you think of that?" Yohn asks Petra, suddenly standing beside her.

"This tree talks to more than my tree in my garden," she said, unsurprised to see Yohn. "Did you do the face? I think this tree likes having a face."

"It's a bad face, it was my first one. I've made many better," Yohn says. "In the woods."

"Can I see?" said Petra. "Do they talk too? Why do you want to carve the faces?"
