The admiral of the Vale's military navy takes control of the merchant navy as well, and begins fortifying the port. Ships fan out, patrolling the waters. With the Great Council going on and Redwyne and Greyjoy ships not far away in Shipbreaker Bay, the admiral was taking no chances. Tensions could run high. Luckily, the Vale ships were excellently built and armed.

Tensions run even higher when sentries spot a solo ironborn ship a day or so later. However, it ignores the port entirely and continues on it's way North.

"What a tease," one of the captains said. "I was hoping for some sport."
"You might get it," the admiral said grimly. He was a grim sort. "Well done on the sentries though. Keep your eyes peeled, men. Constant vigilance! And I want the harbor sealed off. The Bay of Crabs is going to be secured."
As the ship was going north, the Three Sisters and the Fingers were kept well guarded as well. It would be hard for any fleet to breach the Vale now.

OOC: Ah, thanks.
Admiral Myram Grafton had learned strategy at his famed brother's knee, and now set about securing the port. Raiders, reavers, invaders or conquerers, the Vale would not be breached.
Other sea captains gaped at him, not understanding his need for security, but they could not disobey the admiral.

In the wake of the surprise attack by the Stark fleet, many ships are burned. Admiral Grafton acts quickly, however, and gives chase with his remaining ships.
At the Three Sisters, word is received, and the island ships - which are sworn to House Arryn - prepare to intercept and engage the northern fleet.
They withdraw, however, when they see its great size.

The Moon Maid, which had been spared damage as it was not a military vessel, was boarded by Lord Tommen and twenty of his men-at-arms. They would take word of the raiders to Rhodri. It would also bring the Hand home as quickly as possible, if necessary. Travel between the Vale and Stormlands was faster by ship than by horse.
This time, the swan ship was bristling with archers and ballistae as it set sail for Storm's End.

Lord Tommen Redfort returns to the Vale and immediately rides for his troops to collect them and join Lord Grafton.

Lord Grafton's army arrives in Gulltown. Forces had been left to fortify the Eyrie, the Bloody Gate and Runestone and outriders search for any remaining signs of the invaders, including in the Mountains of the Moon. Feelers are sent out to the Stone Crows -- the friendliest clan to the ruling lords -- to see if there has been any sign of the enemy.
Meanwhile, the infantry in Gulltown lend their shoulders to the reconstruction.

Ser Harry Belmore, Lord Tommen Redfort and Ser Casset Corbray had led their men here at Lord Grafton's command to protect the city and chase down raiders. The northmen had almost all been defeated, either killed or captured. But still they could not find Sands.
Harry Belmore dragged some of them into an inn cellar, and had his men tie them up. Tommen and Casset watched silently as Harry interrogated the men. They were whipped and burned when they refused to answer or pleaded that they did not know.
"You are his own men, his captains!" Harry Belmore grated. "You will tell me where he is!"
It went on for hours.

Finally one of the men breaks, "He went to the mountain clans."

Harry's flat eyes gleamed with cold triumph. "Which clans did he say? Or do you know which mountain?" The whip hissed towards the man.
Tommen thought back on his days as a ward and hostage of Runestone. He had known Aranya for a short time then, though she'd never spoken to him. Nobody would be better equipped to search the clans and get Sands.

"Good." Harry said, satisfied.
"How do we treat with clansmen?" Casset asked.
"I will send a raven to Aranya Royce," Tommen said, striding from the room. "Meanwhile, we inform the Vale Watch and Lord Grafton, so they can secure the clans." He left. Ser Casset Corbray and his men didn't move, nor did the Belmore men.
But Harry Belmore was not quite finished. "How many men did Sands take with him?" he asked softly. "Or is he alone with the barbarians?"
