Aerie sneered in distaste but nodded her head in assent. "To be sure."
Aerie signaled to her shadowcat, who darted to her side.

striding across the grounds to the Hand's tent, Francis hears the messenger's shouting. "I better observe this." Francis muttered.

Seth nodded to Francis as they all three, five with the shadowcats, rushed to the Rock.

--------------------- Storming across the tourney grounds with Ser Torn and a handful of men-at-arms, Francis catches sight of his brother-in-law and Ser Daven.
"Greetings Ser Roland, Ser Daven." He says, his voice and face betraying the frustration of the days events.

Roland raises a hand in greeting. "Well met, Francis. You look troubled?"

"Ser Tallahar Tyrell." Francis says stressing the "ser". The Lord of Stoatheart waved his hand as if that would dispel the irritation. "You've been well I hope?" Turning to Ser Torn, Francis said, "Seek out Ser Alexander Irwyn, and return here with him." the knight of Blacksables nodded and headed out.

Not knowing what his brother-in-law was on about, Roland spoke his mind. "Aye, well enough-- if not a bit distacted, Francis. The tourney's coming to a close, I suspect I shall soon return to the Vale and my duties there."

"Um..." Francis searched for words, "What would you say to taking a short detour to see the Far Reach? I know Lady Anne would enjoy your company very much, and you might enjoy seeing your sister's new home. Although I'm sure it will be much more attractive when she's done decorating."

A lack of clarity in words did not seem a part of Francis' character. "Well, of course I would like to see Stoatheart... but, I should return to the Vale. This tourney has been leisure enough." Roland paused, and spoke quietly, in a ridiculously absurd conspiratorial tone, "Francis, if you need my help, just tell me."
Behind him Daven's palm met his forehead silently.

"Tallahar Tyrell has been dispossessed from Uplands for treason by word. Yet he is to march south to pick up personal items from the keep before it is turned over to him. With his damnable Golden Roses ,and personal guards, he outnumbers my own men. I fear he will fall upon us in the road and slaughter us. I would seek your help Ser Roland, and any men you can summon to escort me until I can be met by my own troops."

Roland nodded. "I understand. I will speak with Lord Rhodri and see which knights and soldiers can be diverted. I, for certain, will accompany you. Daven?"
Daven smiled, "Wouldn't want to miss the party, Lord Varner."

Francis nodded, "I am in your debt Ser Roland. Ser Daven, I assure you there will be quite the party when we arrive, and you shall want to try the local vintage from a small hamlet called Irwyn. You may never go back." Francis smiled, feeling more secure now, with the Knight of the Bloody Gate at his defense.

"Alright, Francis. I will go to make my arrangements. Let me know when it is time to leave." With that, Roland and Daven rode off to the area where the Valemen had erected their tents.

Francis disappeared into the Varner encampment. The order to double guard watches followed a short time later.
