As the ships sailed away, Velarios looked back at the island and lightly touched the hilt of his Braavosi sword. "For another day you will be waiting, my dear."

Albert looked at the island.
"It seems that this mission is doomed. I wish I had kissed Penny before I left. Now it seems I'll never get the chance."

The maester continued looking over the notes and letters, mumbling to himself.
Edmure grew impatient. "Well?"

ooc: sorry - had problems with 'net access the last few days.
The maester blinked and looked at Edmure "Fascinating! Did you know that this belonged to a scion from House Gardener? I thought them all extinct. This will raise immense interest in the Citadel" he beamed at the thought of the extra prestige to be gained. At Edmure's glare he cringed and said "As far as the maps go, there is nothing recorded further east than this point. The map is blank and just warns that those who have tried to go further have never returned. As for the journal" he begins to get excited again "It's a chronicle of past Gardener lords since the landing of Aegon. It's incomplete of course. I don't suppose we can go back for the rest?" he says hopefully. He sighs at Edmure's stony face and carries on "It seems things were fairly uneventful for hundreds of years. Crop failures and occassional uprisings aside. For the last hundred years or so though more and more birth defects were recorded and the incidence of madness in general population began to increase. It seems that the limited population were interbreeding too much. We saw similar things under Targaryen rule though not to this extent. About 10 years ago a plague or disease seemed to strike the island and most of the people were wiped out. Those that were left seemed to go mad and consume the flesh of their fellows" he says in distaste. "The last few pages don't make much sense. I think the lord himself was a bit feeble-minded to tell the truth"

"Lord of Light what is it with you Westerosi and inbreeding." Farrio quipped.

Velarios nods in approval of Farrio's statement.

"You marry your sisters in the Free Cities Farrio. The Targaryens were Valyrian as well, not Westerosi. Besides, all men are related to a certain extent."

"It is obvious what happened," Septon Leyton tells the others, "The people of the island turned from the ways of the Seven, committing themselves to evils such as incest and, I am sure, sodomy, and so the Seven sent a punishment to them. Now they have degenerated to barbarous scum, suitable only as fodder for the Warrior's swords."
