Dawn came all too soon. Lilith needed to get on but never had leaving been so hard. She dragged herself out of bed and pulled on her riding leathers. She was placing the minature tapestry of Petra and scenes from the camp that she'd embroidered on the pillow next to Piers when she felt a hot tear leak from her eye.

ooc: I've moved something like 20 times in the last 25 years. I still get a thrill from it everytime For the first time though, I feel like I'm moving to rather away from a home. It is my devout hope that I'll never move again! ooc-Well good luck on that rather noble aspiration. I know exactly what you are talking about.

Piers opened his eyes wide. He reached out his hand to caress her cheek. "It looks like it is raining. How dark are the skies? I had hoped they would be fading away to sunshine soon."
Piers' eyes caught sight of the pillow, "I have awoken next to another spider's web. It seems whenever I wake there are webs cast about my bed room. It is strange how pleasant an experience that is." Piers chuckled softly.

She laughed gently in return and wiped her eye. "I'm either tired or getting soppy in my old age." She mimed a gigantic shudder.
She kissed Piers very gently. "I am getting tired of this mobile lifestyle but for the time being I am committed. One of these days it would be lovely to get to see you two nights in a row. In the meantime, I'll send you as many spider silks as I can to give you a sense of how Petra is getting on."
She paused, and said the thing that had been circling about her brain for so long. "I do wish you could meet Petra one of these days, I think you would find kindred spirits in each other. I understand that you have massive commitments including the tourney, but children change so fast that I fear you will miss out precious times."

Piers shifted nervously, and edged away. "I have thought about that too. She can probably speak by now. I would love to come see her as soon as I can."
Piers licked his lips slightly before continuing, "You move around so much though. And with Kid Death maybe hunting me, I don't want to lead him to you and yours. So I think caution is best." Piers studied her out of the corner of his trying to judge her reaction.

"I love you, m'dear," she replied, "And despite your fearsome reputation, I also trust you. Follow your instincts on this matter. Just remember that while cocoons can lead protection for butterflies, they can lead to death for flies. " She smacked her lips and grinned an evil grin, "I am a caught in an web of insect metaphors."
She hugged him fiercely and kissed him goodbye. "I'm off to greet my Royce kinsmen and then laungh into the world again." She let her fingers trace his cheeks once more and then was gone.

A raven arrives with a message in code and a handerkerchief.
"Congratulations, my dear lord, on your newest honors. Sounds like the beetle is sitting solidly on gold these days. I hope that you are finding it as fulfilling as I know you wish (females do flutter so at the sight of wealth). Given the even greater need to protect our beloved Petra these days, could you send a few more men with sharp eyes, sharp swords and a willingness to do everything from delivering babies to mucking out stables. Please make sure they don't faint at the sight of blood as well."
He could hear the teasing in her voice as he read her next words. "I will be amused to see how good looking you make these men because I of course prefer pretty young things." The note then continued in a more serious vein. "I will also be asking my Royce kinsmen to send a few men as well. Our band is busier than ever."

A coded raven arrived for Piers.
"Beloved, infinite thanks both for your presents to Petra (she of course liked the sword best but is taking your injunction to read the books very seriously) and for the twenty utterly gorgeous men at arms. I am very impressed by your ability to martial such spectacular specimens. Three of them, however, will be returning with Elana. Two looked so uncomfortable when asked to trade their pretty blue livery for the plain homespun and leather we wear around here I knew they'd never survive and one had the arrogance of a man who knew he was supremely good looking and was used to using it to his advantage. Never have had any patience with spoiled men or women.
Talking about which, did you realize that among your troops were three women, or perhaps two women and one creature utterly confused. All three are excellent value. Fernando, as one of the women calls herself, is particularly valuable as she understands how to teach a young girl swordsmanship (or should that be swordswomanship?).
So thank you again for the lovely gifts and the protection of the Fair 17. Always have liked the number 17.
