"Yes, I was trying to find you," Elane said. "I was thinking about Allard, but now that the poor boy was found, it's all right. He was found bloody and injured. Do you know anything of it?"

Lilith sees Elane and greets her warmly. "Ah, Elane, so glad you are here. We have need of your many skills. You are right that we need grain within the building, rather than trampelled in the fields or stolen by our foes. I also wanted to ask you if you would help with the infirmary I plan if Lord Baldwin gives permission. I sense that the difference in this battle will be how many of our troops survive to fight another day. Fearsome days are ahead."
Then Lilith returned to the question of Allard, "It is nice that the boy has been found, I suspect it was some Lannister fight, but we of course cannot know for sure."
She shook her head. "Too much to do. I won't set up the ballroom until our host gives us leave, but perhaps we can talk to the staff that remain about the supplies we might need. A stitch in time saves nine."

"Of course, Auntie," Elane said. "I am no maester, but I know one or two things. And I agree, we should tell the servants to gather the supplies. Where is the maester? Is he here?"

"Aah, so glad you can help. I trust your organizing ability in all things. I do not know who the maester is here now. They had a skilled maester but he is now in Kings Landing, good for young Allard but not good for the battle we will be facing shortly."

Lilith and Elane go to have a conversation with the cook and the housekeeper. The cook has a goodly amount of numb balm and ingredients for lemonsalt, pepperwort, willow tea and curative mold on hand, all will be useful. She also mentions that she just received a supply of black handled daggers.
"Designed for a lady to protect herself, they are" Lilith agreed to pay a modest fee for them and she and Elane brought them back up to the Ladies' Chambers along with the other ingredients they had found.
A further trip found that the housekeeper had a solid supply of linens, some old enough to be torn into bandages, others useable for cots and pallettes if there was to be an infirmary in the ballroom.

Elane steals up to the maester's tower and brings down jars of milk of the poppy and wine that could be boiled to clean open wounds.

The Valyrian lordlings are doing lordly and knightly things, leaving their womenfolk alone and confused. Lilith gathered them all together in Sara's large and comfortable sitting room and explained in High Valyrian, low Valyrian and the Common Tongue what might be about to happen. She asked for help in the infirmary, and some agreed to that, others said they would help watch the children and the very elderly under the guidance of the temporary lady of the castle, Sara. Lilith also offered them the daggers she had purchased from the cook in case they wanted a means to protect themselves. Many of the younger took her up on it and then they spent some of the rest of the evening in dagger practice. Lady Sara's sitting room cushions would never be the same again but by the end they had the basic idea of taking the pointy end and pushing it into flesh.
Lilith spent some time watching Daena, assessing whether she would be a worthy wife to Breyn. She well might as she was showing more spirit than all the other Valyrian ladies combined. She had volunteered to help with the wounded and had taken to knife practice with a delightful glee. Only Elane and Sara, practised in such arts since young, seemed more at home with a sharp blade.

Elane joins Lilith and Sara in the sitting room, and slips next to her aunt. Princess Rhae is handling the daggers with her kin, but Daena sits aloof from the others.
"I saw Breyn going to speak with her before he left," Elane said softly in Lilith's ear. "How did it go? I can't tell if Daena's dreaming of love or sitting with cold, haughty condescension."

"Breyn I think was pleased with how the conversation went, and said she had wit as well as brains. She might yet be our good cousin."
Then she grinned at Elane. "Do be polite around her, we don't want our Royce straight forwardness to scare her off before she even knows us."

Selwyn chuckles watching the ladies practice their "needlework".
"Never fear, good women, I shall be here to protect you.", Selwyn winks.

Lilith blows him a kiss ![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png) and then tells him to get off to bed, the ladies have their duties to worry about rather than a good looking young man like himself.

Selwyn would rather the ladies had to worry about him instead of their duties. But he knew Naunt Lilith would be an impediment; a stubborn woman she was.

"Of course, Auntie," Elane said. She hailed Daena. "Princess, please come and keep me company. My sweet aunt is tired and must retire for the night." When the princess approached, Elane took her hand gently.
"I was so afraid this morning when I heard my maids squeaking about the massive stag host," she sighed. "But Lord Breyn is coming to our aid with 20,000 troops, and I feel safer already. He is so brave, my cousin, and so gallant. We all love him dearly." Princess Daena smiled and murmured something.
Elane suddenly threw Selwyn a sly smile. "Oh by the way, coz, my sister is coming with our lord, and bringing thirty wildlings with her. Did you know that?" At Daena's puzzled look, Elane explained, "Aranya Stone, my half-sister, coming with Lord Breyn. She's as wild as the mountain clansmen..." Elane remembered Lilith's advice and added hurriedly, "But we trueborn Royces are made of, er, nobler stuff. Lord Breyn especially. You won't catch him in bed with two clansmen at once."
At the grin on Daena's face, Elane groaned. "Er, Aranya hasn't been in bed with two clansmen at once," she lied.

"Aranya comes with Lord Breyn?" Selwyn's mood improves appreciably. "I am ever so fond of your sister, dear coz." While his words are genteel, the glint in his eyes decidedly isn't.

"Yes," Elane said primly, glancing at Daena. For now the princess looked mildly amused. "Will you be riding out to join the Royce troops? You have pledged Baldwin your sword, I don't know how he'd refuse to let you out."
