Hi all,
I'm a newbie here looking around. I'm an experience PbPer, and ASOIAFer. I run a large PbP ASOIAF game on Brennors RPG Corner (http://brennor.dyndns.org). However, I have found it difficult to find a game to play in, and Lords of Westeros looks interesting, very interesting. I've read the setting information, etc. Can someone direct me to where I should get started?
Thanks,
Tet

Hi
We are currently looking for new members in the following houses:
Baratheon Lannister Martell Stark Hightower Greyjoy Royce
House Tully was a player house too but they seem to have disappeared so I don't recommend playing a Tully at present.
Once you have chosen your house, you can talk to active members of the house, particularly the head of house, to find a role to suit you. But it would be logical to pick the house first, I think. So if you have a think about that, I'll happily direct you to the appropriate head of house. Each of these houses has at least 2 active members at present so you should be able to find someone to interact with from the beginning.

Is there anywhere to see what the current state of all the Houses are? Including who the active players/characters are?

Most of the active players posted in the thread linked below and you can see they belong to a variety of houses. lordsofwesteros.proboards.com/thread/10785/low-activity-registerI don't think we have a record of the current state of houses but we do have the genealogies which should be updated to the current timeline for each of the houses I listed. Our admin/GM is a little busy at the minute but should be returning to normal activity very soon.

Welcome!
I was going to link you to the activity register but I see Marie beat me to it. You should have plenty of choice in where you play, as I'm sure most houses would be happy to take you on, given the current shortage of players.

The site's organization is kinda strange. Where is the OOC information, like the genealogies, posted?

"Setting" board.

This is the Setting board which should have the information you need: lordsofwesteros.proboards.com/board/294/settingLOW has a long history of previous incarnations so there is a huge archive of backstory around somewhere, hence the confusion.

Understandable. I did find them. Although, the family trees are really hard to read, mostly because of the 'non-current' members of the family.
Anyway.
Is it possible to play characters that are not from the major houses? Or even smallfolk, sellsword, folks from Essos, etc?

There is some leeway there so long as those characters are in service to one of the main houses, but it's best to have your 1st/main character be a member of the family if possible because it will help with integration and place you on a more even footing with other players. 2nd and 3rd characters could be of a lower rank if need be. We have a couple of mercenary characters about so it's certainly possible. But as I said, it's not recommended for the main character. The idea of having set houses is so everyone hopefully has someone they can roleplay with.
You're right about the genealogies but if you have some queries about the members of a particular house, please do let us know.

Not really. In this iteration all characters must be direct family members of the house they serve or have close ties to it. You might be able to play a Royce small folk servant, but you couldn't play a Fossoway third son living as a hedge knight in the service of Lord Mallister.
Edit: See above for a better answer.

That's fine, just getting a sense of what's going on.
In that case, the family trees are fairly specific. Would I need to play one of the entries listed there? Or is there leeway to introduce new characters, etc?

There's likely leeway, but I'd double check with the head of house in question.
