Tourney Prep
Donal sits atop his horse in the training yard of the Red Keep, it was a week before the court was scheduled to depart for the tournament at Oldtown. And so in between the investigating of the fourth assassin in the area as well as his duties as captain of the guard for his brother, Donal spent his free time preparing for the upcoming joust. With a weighted lance and only his horse, he ran through the jousting lists whether or not someone was there to practice against him. The fact that he had no target did not bother Donal all that much, nor did the glances that he received from others in the yard deter his training regime. Since most people practiced hitting the target as well as being able to stay on their horse during the joust in preparation for their bouts, Donal decided to take another approach to his training. For he knew how to hit a target and had been wielding a spear and lance since before he had even learned how to ride, the goal of his time spent on the yard was to strengthen the bond that him and his horse shared. The weighted lance served one purpose and that was to help his shoulder in its recovery from his recent injury, by holding the heavier than usual lance, Donal had hoped that his shoulder would recover faster and get back to its old strength by the time the tourney rolled around. As part of his training he had read up on the Dothraki, and tried to utilize the few training techniques that had been able to find concerning the horse lords of the east. One of these findings that Donal was able to uncover was that some people had opted out of using reins and instead tried to teach the horse what it needed to know through the legs. Through either applying pressure or even flexing of the leg Donal tried and get the animal to do his bidding and with less and less use of the reins, the more that Donal and his steed where able perform as a team rather than two different entities with one being controlled to do the other’s bidding.
