"If we wave our banner with pride the faithful will surely offer us food and shelter," Gyles suggested. "And those who do not, well, we shall remember their names."

"We can maybe rely on the Brown Brothers and the septs," The old man agreed.

Leyton nodded. "I suppose those will have to do. If we are truly desperate, I am of the belief that it is better to give offense to a northern lord than see members of the faith starve, but that is an issue we can address if and when it arises."

"Let us hope it will not be necessary to offend anyone," said Gyles. "Perhaps we will be lucky and the people will show their kindness."

"Let us pray that is the case." Leyton agreed. "Let us appoint one of us to bear the weight of responsibility for the acquisition and distribution of supplies, you Ser," Leyton indicted the knight who had been subjected to his anger. "You said you have some coin and experience in the stepstones, would you be interested in such a role?"

The knight grinned insolently. "I am not a quartermaster, boy. I said I would be willing to spend my coin, not that I wished to organise the supplies. And it won't stretch far if I must provide for two hundred."

This time Leyton managed to contain his annoyance, realizing that the knight was not as serious as he had been before. "Are then any among us who would take on the role? I shall write my cousin, The Lord of the Hightower, to attempt to secure us funds or supplies."

"I'll do it," said the septa. "I am less threatening than a knight, after all. Men will underestimate me."
Gyles remarked to Leyton "You'll need a raven for that. But to find a raven you'll need a castle with a maester."

"That is not entirely true." Leyton replied. "A message may be sent by ship, although it will take some time to arrive at the Hightower. Any assistance would thus be provided at a later stage of our march."
Leyton then turned to address the Septa. "It is certainly true that you are less intimidating, but I wonder if that will work to our advantage or to our detriment." Leyton hesitated before carrying on. "Forgive me for asking, but do you have any...experience...in matters military? The logistic supply of an army is a task that requires a fair amount of expertise."

"We aren't an army," the Old knight replied, "We're loyal subjects petitioning our High Septon and our Queen."

"That is true." Leyton replied. "But we also have many characteristics and needs common to those that might be present in an army."

The septa said "Of course I've no military experience, but I once helped the septas of Baelor's Sept arrange the supplies for the resident septas. I will happily step aside if someone else wishes to volunteer."

"I see." Leyton scanned the ranks of men, desperately hoping someone else would volunteer. He wondered if it would be ill taken were he to nominate himself. He suspected it would.

A man in the back of the room rose from his seat at one of the tables. He was a southerner, that much was apparent to Leyton, but he couldn't tell for sure from which region the man came from. He had short-cropped brown hair and his face was hidden underneath bushy brown side-whiskers that was connected by a small thin mustache. He had a mug of the dark mead of the north in his left hand and he took a deep drink from it, before placing it on the table next to him.
"I volunteer, I guess, if the rest of you all aren't up for the task." he said and looked at the young Hightower.

Leyton allowed the man a nod of respect. "Thank you, Ser. I'm sure Septa..." He glanced at her, hoping she would provide a name, "will be happy to assist you should you require it." He smiled politely to the Septa.
