Finn Stone, disguised as a foppish lordling in a ridiculous hat, and Isabel Hightower, disguised as a whore, meander the streets of Fleas Bottom.

"So what do we do now?" Izzy asked as she walked alongside Finn. Her dress was cut lower than she would have liked, especially outdoors, but she understood why that had to be the case, so she made no complaint. "Let's not walk too fast," she said. "I might fall out of my dress. What sort of places will we find here in Flea Bottom? I have heard of something called a...pot shop?"

Finn threw an arm around Isabel's waist and pushed her against him, whispering into her neck, "You need to play your part dear," he said, "People are watching always."
"Let's have us a drink my little sweetling, hmm?" He said more loudly, "That'll get you just the right amount of willing."

"How can I play a role I know nothing about?" She whispered, then faked a giggle out loud. "I never said I wasn't willing. But a drink will help. Oh my good lord, I knew it would be wonderful the moment I saw you."
She looked around curiously, since she had never been to Flea Bottom before.

It was muddy and sordid as she knew it would be. In the alley a whore is plying her trade on two drunken sailors. She sees a mangy dog feasting on a pile of what she hopes to the Seven are rotten sausages and not a man's intestines.
Finn guided her towards a pot shop, "Pot o' wine," he insisted to the man, before taking the one offered and taking a large gulp
"Drink up!" He encouraged her.

She hesitated and took the tiniest sip first. The wine was sour and made her cough. But she made herself smile once she was done coughing.
"Sorry, caught a chill the other day." She took a large swallow of the wine. "Very nice! I can't believe I never came here before."
She leaned in close to Finn and under the cover of pretending to kiss him, whispered "Not a patch on Arbor vintages."
She was already wondering if she had made the right decision to come. The things she'd seen had already shocked her beyond anything she thought possible.

Finn's hand on her waist went lower, and he gave her a playful squeeze, "Ah.. not the place I'd come to if I weren't already drunk!" He exclaimed, like the foppish lordling he wasn't, "But if it makes my lady happy, I'm quick to oblige. I mean.. not quick... when it counts, but you know what i meant HAHA!"

She laughed at that and again pretended to kiss him. "Don't drink so much you can't keep it up," she said, playfully scolding. "I shall have to count the number of drinks you have from now on. I'll get my money even if you fall asleep, but that's no reason not to have a good time, is it?"
She had some more of her drink and whispered "So what do we do now we're here? I'm not going to let you have me on that table. That's taking the pretence a little too far, today at least." She indicated a rather scratched table, old and scorched in places, stained with wine, food and what looked like blood in various places.

"Then where can I have you?" Finn replied, biting her earlobe, and guiding her away from the wine shop, swaying with his pot in the air, "There's a place where you can get a decent meal, if you've coin," he suggested, rather loudly, "let's go there and have a bite."

"Of course. Food is good," she said, leaning close to him. She wasn't hungry, really, and wasn't sure she wanted to eat what the common people ate, but perhaps it would be interesting to see what kind of food it was. "I hope you brought enough coin. The customer pays."

Finn approached a small stand, where an old man was selling pieces of meat on skewers. He buys two, and holds up on to Izzy's mouth for her to take a bite.

The smell of the meat made her hungry despite herself. She took a dainty bite and chewed. "Not bad," she observed. It's cooked better than I'd expected."

"Oh well lad dee da, uppity strumpet," the cook grumbled, causing Finn to laugh, "careful," he whispered, nuzzling her neck, "The poor are proud too."
They walked on.

"I never knew that," she whispered. "I don't see much of them, except servants. Am I doing alright, otherwise? This is all so new to me. I can't help showing my surprise, sometimes."

"You do a little too much whispering," he replied with a laugh, "Just pretend from inside out. That's the best disguise."
