"They are the Queen's lands, granted to your ancestor who knelt before the Dragon. A lord has discretion within the lands he rules, but it is not limitless. Banning a faith within your lands is not one of your powers, nor is unjustly removing a lord from his ancestral lands without cause."

"They are my lands," Eirek repeated, "And have been since before we allowed the Manderlys to live in them, since before we knelt to the Targaryens. But I have not banned any faith. No septs will be closed, no man will be forced to change his faith, nor harmed if he does not."

"Tell that to Lord Roland, who you have dispossessed of his titles, or his son which you imprisoned," Royce replies sharply. "Lord Manderly came to us for protection, and we have granted it. Lord Roland has pledged his fealty to my house."
Bayard's fingers tense around his cane, before loosening. When he speaks again, his tone is less harsh. "Make your peace with it if you can, Eirek. That is your choice. But I do not need to tell you the consequences if you cannot."

Eirek took a breath. "Fine. I will accept this judgment. But the fact remains that Timmett Manderly attacked me. I will not release him to any save the Night's Watch or the Gods."

"Attacking a Lord is still a crime," Bayard acknowledges. "And the Night's Watch always needs strong arms."

Oswyn sighed at the thought of all the work that would have to go into unloading the ships of the provisions for the planned invasion, but did not comment further.

"Is this display of obeisance enough to secure my brother's release, Your Grace?" Eirek asked the Queen.

Bertrem replied quickly, "Do you have a civil tongue in your head Lord Stark?"

"When I need to. I don't recall having uttered any particularly foul words here."

"Your tone and choices of words were quite impudent Lord Eirek." Bertrem replied, "You had better practice your civility in here."

"Let's not quibble over details, Lord Bertrem," Bayard says wearily. It was petty to gloat in victory. He turns back toward Eirek. "That is the Queen's decision to make. As you have accepted the Queen's peace, I see no reason to confine Lord Edric longer. But perhaps it would be... wise for him to stay in King's Landing. Had certain actions been brought to the Crown sooner, much of this could have been avoided. Don't you agree, Your Grace?"

Rose nodded, her cheeks coloring as they spoke, "Indeed. I think you words are quite wise, Lord Bayard."

"But he will be free within the confines of the city, at least?"

Rose replied, "I promise that he will come to no harm. And the city is his to explore."
