"I can see that," she said. "Well, then, my initials goals are simple. I wish to consolidate my position at court, to befriend the princess and make myself invaluable to her. I also wish you advice in seeking alliances. My own late husband was a Tyrell, and my sister is wed to Quenton Baratheon, but my other siblings remain unwed. So we need to ally with others of the great houses."

"Your other sibling is a.. lord or lady?" Saxon asked, before thumbing his beard.
"I could arrange a meeting for you with the Princess, if you wish, I am familiar enough with her habits. As for alliances, Tyrell and Baratheon seem to handle themselves. I would propose the Tullys. A capable house, but less grandiose then the Hightower. It is always ideal to enter into alliances where you will be the senior partner, I find."

"Oh, perhaps. I've got three unwed brothers and an unwed sister," she explained. "And I am myself unwed. I shall have to see what I can do. Of course I would not presume to make a match for Gwayne. I don't think he would like it if he returned home to find himself betrothed to some woman he'd never met." She laughed at that. "It would be a cruel thing to do to a brother, wouldn't it? But I shall consider Tully. Oh, if only half the realm were not at war!"

"I'm still available for a marriage alliance," Saxon replied with a chuckle to show he was teasing.
"But alas it is. And things grow yet more dire with this distasteful news about Prince Damon. I am curious about your thoughts on that tragic situation."

"Most horrid," she sighed. "The poor king, it's just not fair. Nobody deserves a son like that. I was so shocked when I heard. I pray the king recovers."

"Indeed, I fear for the security of the realm myself. Such dissension tends to give lordlings bad ideas about settling old scores." Saxon replied.

"I suppose it must do," Izzy said. "For myself I have no old scores to settle but I am sure some of the older lords and ladies must do. Yet my father and mother were perhaps not as loved as they might have been. Perhaps you might help me find out if they had any rivals in the old days?"

"The Tyrells, of course, have always looked with displeasure on the rise of their vassals to a status equal their own, that much you know, obviously. As for the others, I have heard of none who wish the Hightower's ill, but of course, if I hear even the faintest whisper, I should gladly let you know."

"I would very much appreciate that kindness," she said. "As to the Tyrells, perhaps they do not dislike us like they once did? They'd hardly let me marry their son, otherwise. Though I am not going to forget the past, of course. The others, though..." She tossed her head with a little shrug. "I will worry about them when I know them better! Ought I to worry about the Free Cities, my lord?"

Of course they would. Friends close enemies closer, and all that," Saxon replied. "But i can't speak to their specific motives."

"I suppose not," she sighed. "I know so little about the Free Cities, myself. But I did not wish to disregard them either, though Westeros must be my first concern. But I wonder, might it not be prudent to find out what happened to the exiled prince? I wonder that he was not put to death. Such a man will be a rallying point for dissidents for as long as he lives. Men who dislike the king and princess would surely flock to his banner. And there will be some, won't there? No king can please everybody."

"There will be some," Saxin agreed. "But I am sure the Small Council and your friend Lord Tyrell have the matter in hand, would you not agree..." Saxon asked. "As long as no high lords of stature show signs of siding with the Prince we may escape civil war yet." He paused k sip his wine. "You don't know any do you?"

"Of course not. But I know it's a possibility," she said., taking a tentative sip of wine. "I know so little about the great lords. I mean, I know Tyrell and Royce and my own brother, and I know all of them are faithful. But the others...I have no idea, truly."

"Well, Three out of the seven kingdoms is part of the way there I suppose," Saxon replied with a chuckle. "In answer to your question, I can not say, each free city has different interests, and views our Kingdom differently. Does your family have much interest there? That should be the key question."

"Only trade, really. Oldtown will trade with anyone who can pay their harbour taxes, so we get lots of trade from the Free Cities as well as the cities of Westeros. In person, I don't know. I am but new to such matters, myself. I was a wife at Highgarden for several years and before that I was just a girl. I've not had any dealings with the Free Cities, except for merchants. If my kin have, they've not told me."
