The solar at the Eyrie is not so large as those at other great castles, for the Eyrie itself is relatively small. It has a solid desk, several comfortable chairs, and a breathtaking view of mountain peaks and a startlingly high waterfall. It is the source of many a jape that the Lord with the best view in Westeros is the only one who cannot enjoy it.

Robert Royce walked up his uncle's solar, knocking decisively on the door, awaiting his uncle's response from inside.

"Enter," Bayard says.
Robert's uncle was sitting in one of the chairs before the hearth, fingers steepled in thought. In another chair was the secretary/bodyguard, Cassar Saras, reading a correspondence aloud. Bayard listened, committing it to memory, but raises his hand for the man to stop when Robert enters.
"It is Robert Royce," Cassar says in his thick eastern accent.
"Please sit, Robert," Bayard says, turning slightly towards his nephew.

Robert took the offered seat and moved it so that he faced Bayard, he knew that is wasn't really necessary but nonetheless, he felt like he should face someone he was talking to.
"Thank you, uncle. I hope I wasn't interrupting anything of importance."

"Family takes priority over all else," Bayard says with a small smile, "So tell me what is on your mind, Robert."

Robert smiled at his uncle's kindness.
"Two things actually, first of all I wanted to hear if you had heard anything from the war? How are your son doing, and will the war end soon? Secondly, I wanted to ask permission to go scout the mountain clans, with the war going on, they have become more bold as most of our troops have gone to the Stepstones and I wish to know what is going on with them."

"Damian is well," Bayard replies, "His last report indicated that our forces were preparing for a final push. Should we win there, the Volantene league should be forced to the treaty table within the month. As for the clans..." Bayard taps a finger on the arm of his chair pensively. "That is a good plan. How many men do you anticipate needing?"

Robert was pleased to hear that their troops might soon return back home.
"I don't want to bring too large a force as I don't want to bring to much attention to the mission, but not small a force that we'll be in trouble should we be spotted. I don't have much experience in this, so correct me if I might be wrong, uncle, but I would say 50 men would be able to do the job."

"Fifty men can be spared," Bayard answers. "A group of that size will likely be spotted once you enter the mountains. But that cannot be helped; the clans know the highlands better than us, and too much smaller of a group could leave you vulnerable. Be sure to take trackers with you, or hire a local huntsman." Bayard considers for a moment more. "There are not enough men to spare at the Eyrie itself, but take what you need from the Gates of the Moon."

Robert nodded, grateful toward his uncle for trusting him to lead, and rose from his seat.
"Do you have any other orders for me, uncle? Or am I free to go prepare for the expedition?"

"I trust you to use your judgment, Robert. Good luck." Bayard dismisses his nephew.
