"You think I care for your safety?" Aurane asked, raising an eyebrow. "Perhaps you should watch out that your little hirelings haven't gotten a taste for what they did." He stopped himself, looked away.
"Of course if you want to go to that damn place between the trees and think of how beautiful things used to be, then go ahead. I won't be joining you there, for what you have become."

"The dead one?" Lyssandra asked while petting the wolf gently. "I heard there are some travellers that cart around animals with them, perhaps I will pay those people a visit to have a viewing. I do miss out on seeing the exotic wildlife of other areas. It's not very important to see them, but it would be nice if I did see them myself rather than read about their description in books." She felt calmer now that the wolf had accepted her at least for the moment. Edric chuckled lightly; something he did not do often. "Oh right. The new one, then." He'd never heard of such 'travellers'. "These people raise wild animals in captivity?" he inquired, raising an eyebrow. "Seems rather silly. And probably a torture for the animals, if you care about that. Why not accompany a hunt?" he asked, aware that in some cases, a bit of torture would be preferable to death. Then again, that depended on the torture. SHe had heard stories from her brother when he was in the Free Cities, and have heard of such distractions in Sunspear and thought it would be the same in King's Landing. Certainly there were other people that would pay to see creatures they would never get to see in their lives otherwise. "I think that they do. They probably capture them and keep them locked up in carts. I suppose they become nothing more than slaves. It's more common in the Free Cities but and seems there is a lot more depravity across the Narrow Seas. Not that we're any better about things here." She ventured to run her hand underneath theh wolf's jaw and rub there. "I have went on a few hunts and seen what there is around Sunspear. "If I was invited on a hunt I would go to see the wildlife around here."

"Hmm," said Edric, seemingly thoughtful, but had no further opinion on animal slaves. Apart from his own wolf, he felt apathetic towards them. Hunting dogs never loved him and his own horse was often mistrustful of him. "Perhaps you can go on one around here during your stay. I bet there's good game in the Kingswood. What kind of animals are there around Sunspear? Snakes?" he asked semi-curiously.
Havoc decided he'd had enough after a while and moved around them, sniffing the various plants and keeping his ears pricked for any commotion. "I don't think he likes it here," Edric said. "Too southern."

I won't be joining you there, for what you have become." Her husband’s cold rebuke raked through her heart and, had she been a weaker woman, she may not have been able to bear it at all. But she was Princess Doreah Martell and a lioness of the Rock—she would not succumb to petty barbs by the likes of this man. She smiled sweetly up at him. “I think we are both past the age of skipping rocks, Aurane. Although, you could be a bit more romantic, admittedly.”

"And you could dispense with the hypocrisy," Aurane answered, walking off in the direction where they had come from. This had been a worse than bad idea, and all Aurane needed now was a break from the constant tension that was present when he and his wife were together.

Doreah hissed in irritation.
“Aurane—wait.” She grabbed his arm, and drew him back to her. “Perhaps we could discuss lighter subjects when together?”
She tried to arrange her features to the cutest effect possible.

"Like what?" Aurane asked, looking at Doreah sceptically. "We come to the gardens to enjoy the view and this happens. We can dance around the edges and try to keep a balance, but it doesn't work, does it?" He rubbed his eyes. "One of us says something, piercing, and the other must respond. That is what we are."

She looked at Havoc and then to Edric, "And how do you like it here?"

Edric assumed she was talking about the spotted cats he'd once seen in a book of children's tales. "Hmm. You shouldn't be scared of insects; you can just squash them." He paused and looked up at the night sky. The stars seemed different down here, in wrong places. The city was not particularly likeable and neither were its inhabitants.
"Well, it is warmer," he finally said, smiling at her.

"I was going to say that it's slightly too cold, especially during the night when I am most awake." She never minded insects too much but if they flew too close to her she would swat them away nervously. "So you are eager to return home? I felt like this trip was pointless but I at least have been able to learn a few things."

"I might be. It was fun being on the road," he admitted, meeting her eyes. "I, on the other hand, have learned nothing. If you taught me this cyvasse game, perhaps it all would not have been for nothing," he said, smiling. "And what have you learned, if I may ask?

"Well can we, for a moment, pretend that is not us? Can we take a walk through a garden without drawing swords? I have seen others do it, it is certainly possible, Aurane." She did not release his arm, hoping he would look at her with the remnants of what he once felt for her in his eyes. Was she that difficult to love? How had she erred to bring herself to this lonely place, where the only thing that let her restless mind fade into sleep was the thought of her children?

Aurane laughed bitterly. "You expect me to pretend you are still that beautiful, innocent girl? Don't make me laugh." He pulled his arm away from her, though his mien became a little more gentle. "When you learn that brutal violence is not the way to mend wounds, then you can have my love again..."

But of the violence he does to my heart, he is ignorant.
She had been a fool for trying. His mind was too badly warped by his Father’s hands for there to be anything left to salvage, and she sniffed pathetically around his legs for scraps like a dog under the table.
She lapsed into reticence, dissecting the vertebra of her life, each disappointment laid out side by side until it was all she could see around her.

If his wife would say nothing then Aurane would go home.
