"I use the tone which is appropriate for the man I am speaking to," Bayard says, "as always."

Bertram coughed, and said, "Possibly you are mistaken."

Ser Oswyn had little reaction to the announcement that the warden titles would be stripped of their bearers. Though they may be purely ceremonial stations, he knew how lords coveted a long list of honors after their name.
He was much more interested in the broiling conflict between Lords Royce and Tyrell.

Lyssandra arrived with the Martell group, hiding behind the others. She wore a long sleeve dress and gloves and wore her hair loose. Her Septa had combed it for her all the while she had frowned at having to leave her room for a silly event for a person she did not remember at all. But it was important for her family to make an appearance so she obliged and did not protest. Evan frowned as he noticed his daughter was missing from the sitting entourage. Evan leaned to his sister's ear,"Where is Adrien?"

Lyssandra gave a shrug, she had spent most of the day in her room reading and playing cyvasse.

He frowned,"She and Victor were supposed to be here,"he whispered. "The houses of Martell and Yronwood are joined once again, they are the ones to represent that."
He sighed, shaking his head,"Why couldn't she have been more like you, dear sister?"

Lyssandra's eyes opened wide for a brief moment to indicate her surprise at what he was saying, she looked around nervously and put a finger to her lips. She looked at her brother apologetically but she felt it was not a good place to talk with the way conversation was going in the room.

Lord Lothar glanced briefly at his son before voicing the question that everyone no doubt wanted to ask.
"May we ask why the King has decided to rescind these titles. At least two of the four seem to be more than just ceremonial."

"The King thinks that the proper course is for the new King to appoint... Wardens based on their... ummm.... abilities." Bertram replied.

Lothar raised an eyebrow half in amusement and half in genuine inquiry. He tried to keep the amusement out of the tone of his voice as he spoke.
"An interesting notion Bertram. And what forces would these new wardens command? As you well know, it has traditionally been the warden's role to be primarily responsible for defence against external threats such as the Wildlings."

Harold tilts his head. "And what Abilities is he looking for in the Wardens?"

"I will let the new hand speak of who will get the new Wardenships. He will be appointing the new men." Tyrell replied with a small triumphant smile on his face.

Lothar smiled in turn as he leaned back in his seat.
"Will he. Then we shall look forward to learning the identity of the Hand and his 'appointments'. Perhaps our new Hand will be able provide answers to the questions that we have asked."

Bayard suppressed a sigh. Such a tyrannical restructuring, without cause, could have caused the assembled nobles to put their feet down, and thus enhance all of their strengths in relation to their new monarch. But instead, it seemed as though the Lords would trip over themselves to please. Royce was not sure why he was surprised.
"Will he be making new Lord Paramounts as well?" Bayard asks acidly, "Or perhaps shuffling our castles around?"

Lyssandra began to feel nervous as she sat by her big sister and brother. Obviously they did not seem to be keen on appointing any women to any key roles. She nudged Evan, maybe for him to speak up.
