Gerion stalked into the room, barely grunting a greeting at his departing wife as he did so.
One of Aurane's pups looked up and ran to him to him barking. Gerion kicked it out of his way with a vicious blow and it yelped and limped off to the side. "Why aren't you practicing out in the yard" he asked. "You'll never improve if you sulk & mope in your room all day" he said with a scowl

"But we've been out all day, father," Aurane said, flinching at the kick Gerion delivered to his dog. "And you don't have to kick Piers..." He added quietly, hoping his father would not hear.

Gerion frowned. "We're Lannisters and that means we need to be the best there is and that means we need to work harder, train longer and fight better than everyone else. You do want to be the best, don't you?" he said, his tone indicating there was only one correct answer.

Aurane wasn't sure if he wanted to be the best, if his father said he should. "Of course..." He answered quietly. "But... I can go out in the yard if you like, father."

Gerion smiled broadly at his son and heir, happy as he always was when he was obeyed. "Good lad!" he replied and clapped his son happily on the shoulder. "If you do well, I'll get you some lemoncakes afterwards and some iced sweets" he grinned. "Go fetch your brother Tynian, it's passed time he began his training too"

Aurane nodded, hiding his despair, before running off to find his brother.

ooc: no lemoncakes for you! Gerion ground his teeth in frustration and shook his head at the show of defiance. When will that boy realise that these are the sorts of lessons you need to learn to be a strong ruler? He stalked off after his son & heir leaving Tynian in the dirt without a further glance. As he left, a stone-faced Audric Clegane helped the boy to his feet, not unkindly, as he took him off to find a maester. Aurane was in his bed, hiding under the covers, his padded armour strewn on the floor. He had Piers with him under the blanked, holding on tight to him.

Gerion paused at the entrance to his son's room. He was still angry at the disobedience he had shown but he felt a different tack was needed here. Had anyone else defied him, his wroth would have been terrible but Aurane was the future of this House and he was determined to give him strong male role model he himself lacked growing up.
So he smoothed his expression and released some of his tension as he entered and sat on the edge of his son'sbed.
"I know that was hard for you, son" he said sympathetically. "But being a lord means that you need to be able to make the tough choices. One day you might need to be able to send someone to certain death for you, if it means that victory can be obtained. I know the stories all tell of honorable knights and vicious monsters but sometimes doing the honorable thing means you will lose. The winner gets to write the story. Do you really think Aegon conquered Westeros with niceness? How honorable is it to fight on the back of a dragon? But no one cares if you WIN" he said with emphasis. "That was the test today and you failed it" he said harshly.

Aurane listened to his father from under his blanket, wanting him to go away. When Gerion was done, his son remained silent for a while.
"Why did I have to beat up Ty? He is my brother and I love him..." He finally asked. He pulled Piers closer and gave the dog a hug. Gerion would not hurt the pup again.

Gerion made an exasperated noise and struggled to contain his temper. "This isnnot about your brother, this is about you and the abilities you need. One day you'll be the head of this family and I have to be confident that you will be able to make sure we're the most powerful family in Westeros" he replied.
"Tynian is not you and one day, as his liege lord he will be your subject. He needs to learn HIS place as you need to know yours. To lead is to be disliked by others. You need to be strong enough to handle their scorn, their envy and their hatred and not care about it" he continued.
Eventually he became frustrated talking to a shapeless lump and drew back the covers to meet the eyes of his firstborn. "What will happen if one day in battle you come across a man who, in peace you could call friend, but whom in war is your enemy? You need to strike him down!" he said firmly, moving one hand swiftly into the palm of his other with a chopping motion.

"But couldn't we just be friends?" Aurane asked innocently. "Maybe he wouldn't kill me either." Aurane couldn't look at his father, not after what he had forced him to. It was alright, soon he would be squiring at Horn Hill again. It was boring there, but better than being with Gerion.
"You always... I always hear so much about how we Lannisters are a proud family and how we are so powerful." Aurane said quietly. "But a family that beats each other up isn't strong... I don't think."
He hadn't really ever talked back as much as this to his father but then he had never been forced to hurt Ty like Gerion did. That had been too much. He wasn't Gerion and would never be him.

Gerion stiffened at his son's rebuke, nostrils flaring and for an instant he appeared as if he would strike Aurane for his impudence. The long moments passed as he glared at the boy before he stood suddenly and walked away from him.
"I had thought you were becoming a man. Instead it seems that you want to remain a child; holding onto a child's fantasies, rather than face a hard truth. I think it would be best to send you to squire with Ser Clegane. It appears Ser Brax has mollycoddled you for too long" he looked back at Aurane coldly. "I'd best act before there's too little left to salvage" he said in a dark tone of voice as he exited the room.

Aurane bit back his reply, knowing he was close to making his father truly mad. Instead he simply turned away and got under his covers again, cuddling his dog.

Aurane entered the room in splendid crimson clothes. He looked the part of the heir and he seemed in a cheerful mood too, no doubt because of Doreah. Whom her family did not know about yet.

Lord Royce arrives in a finely cut coat of dark blue with bronze trim, his engraved cane tucked under one arm. With him comes his family; son Damian and daughter Lillian (his youngest, Donnel, too small to attend), brother Ser Malcolm and half-brother Harlan, wife Kara, and a grizzled old man called Mac whose relationship seems unclear, flummoxing the careful seating arrangements of the Lannister stewards.
Accompanying them is a suitably impressive entourage of guards and servants. The guards form precise ranks to wait in the courtyard, while a herald announces the arrival of the Royces.
