Finn followed the whimpering, his eyes scanning around looking for something to take his mind off the mantra rolling around in his brain, Oh my gods I am going to die.

A crooked human skull caught Finn's eyes. It seemed to be staring at him, and then a dogs half eaten body flew through the air to land on the skull covering it with blood.

I am going to die Finn reminded himself, as he raised his torch and tried to get a better view of what was going on as he moved towards where the dog came from. "ANTHONY!" He yelled, "Felix!"

Two yellow cat eyes that seemed to be the size of his head reflected in the torch light from out of the darkness in front of him. He did not think it was Anthony.

Finn squeaked to himself, raised the crossbow, pointed between the beast's beady eyes and pulled the trigger.

The Lion whimpered slightly, and lurched to its left. Finn tracked its movement with the empty cross bow. Then it leapt right for him. Finn managed to jam the crossbow into the beasts mouth, but Varner was still knocked to the ground. The lion pawed at him, and Finn desperately wriggled away. He still felt scoring on his face, and blood filled his left eye.
The lion stared down into Finn's face, moving closer and closer. Their eyes connected and Finn felt there was some devilish intellect reflected there. At the deepest point of Finn's fear he took his torch and slammed it into the cat's eye. The Lion leapt away pulling the crossbow right out of Finn's hand. It feel from the beast's mouth as he shook his head trying to clear it.

Finn shrieked and fiddled with the dagger on his belt, trying to put something in his hand to stab the beast again if it decided to come at him, as he began dragging himself backwards anxiously. Don't reach for your eyes, they are fine. They are going to be fine, he lied to himself.

The Lion looked back at Finn as he moved, and he knew their hate was mutual. The Lion's sole eye gleamed as it began to stalk toward him.
Finn was surprised when a black dog moved infront of him, and stood between him and the great beast. The dog barked incessintly at the Lion. Slowly the lion lowered its gaze to the dog, and lazily swung a paw at it. The dog dodged, and leaped in under the new blind spot for the lion. The Hound tore at its neck.
The lion lunged backwards roaring in pain. Its single eye moved between the dog and the man.

Finn waited for the Lion to be distracted by the hound a second time, and then tried to leap in and stab the beast, before hoping backwards again. Alone the dog would no doubt be broken, as the others had been. Finn thought that perhaps together they'd have a fighting chance.
Gods I sound like Anthony He thought absurdly, as he circled leftwards looking for an opening.

The Lion retreated from the blinding fire. And the dog seemed to sense Finn's plan moving to the side so the Lion had to track both opponents. Twice the lion retreated before turning and backing deeper into the cave.
The dog growled and barked as the Lion backed away, but did not leave the circle cast by Finn's light.

"Where's Anthony?" Finn asked the dog, unsure even as he did of why, since it was unlikely to answer. As he awaited an answer, he attempted to wipe some blood away from his eye, wondering about the damage.

As the blood wiped away he could see. The eye was undamaged, but he could feel the jagged tears the lions claw had left in his face which were filling his eye with blood.
The dog turned and pointed. From behind Finn saw Anthony stumble into the light with the three legged dog in his arms. The boy was pale and shivering. He had tied a piece of cloth around the dogs front leg.

Finn wasn't quite able to understand how Anthony got behind him, "We have to get out of here!" He said, as he wiped blood from his eye yet again.

Anthony nodded, and turned to walk out. "Why did you come in here? Were you mad?"

"I thought you were inside!" Finn responded, "to save the dogs."
