All the major functions and storage of the stronghold of Storm's End are kept within its vast cylindrical central drum tower-the only stone structure within the outer wall. The massive tower is large enough for all the castle's needed barracks, stables, storage, kitchens, lord's residence , feast halls, and smithies. The top of the tower is crested with huge battlements, giving it the appearance of an upraised fist from a distance.
Like many castles, the defense of Storm's End do not limit themselves to simply keeping foes out. Even within the curtain wall, the vast central tower is riddled with secret passages and easily defensibly hallways. The Baratheon family has had little need for these precautions, as the castles has never fallen, so many of the defenses have been forgotten over the generations. Others are known only to a few people raised within Storm's End, discovered during childhood romps through the thick walls.
