Norman's top lip twitches at Charles' reaction, his brow furrowed.
"I apologise if you misinterpreted my intent Ser Charles, but I did not ask to speak with you alone on the pretext of bringing you vital information. I merely wish to discuss with you the situation of House Tarly, in a way that might not be appropriate in front of your Household. Discussions are much more frank one-to-one than they are when one's wife, children or servants are in attendance."
He sniffed, his brow relaxing.
"What news from Horn Hill? What matters bother your attention at present?"

"I do not understand your games. You claim to have important discussions in mind, but dance around the issues at heart." Charles replied.

"Games?" Florent looked taken aback.
"I do not play games, ser."
He looked awkward for a moment, a combination of irritation and discomfort.
He sighed, and closed his eyes. He stared at his boots as he spoke, attempting to give nothing away in his expression or tone of voice.
"Look, I suppose if there were one thing I was particularly looking to discover, it would be your personal opinion on the situation with House Tyrell and House Lannister. You do not have to answer, but since you're unwilling to have a civil discussion with me, I might as well dive straight in."

Ser Charles laughed aloud. "I suppose I should say that Lions rarely lie down in the garden with out it being dangerous."

"Dangerous for whom, Ser Charles?"

"For whomever the Lion eats." Ser Charles replied.

Norman gave a short nod. "And Lions tend not to eat their own, feasting instead on the flesh of those less powerful - those unable to put up a reasonable fight."
"If I might probe further Ser Charles; Lord Tyrell - when last did you meet the boy, and what did you make of him?"

"I have never met the boy." Charles replied, "Bastards a rarely allowed near lords paramount."

"Ah, I just thought that... never mind." He waves a hand dismissively.
"I worry for the child, being brought up in the midst of the individuals responsible for his family being put to the sword. A man such as yourself - close family - makes a fine regent for a young Lord. Now with the death of Ser Erik, I wonder for what might happen to Lord Barrett."

"He will be raised a lion I would imagine." Ser Charles replied.

"Yes, and no doubt treated like the runt of the litter. Whilst the other lions of his generation eat first, he will be consigned to picking the bones. And of course, to leave the pride and strike out on his own... would mean death. 'Tis a hard life ahead of him."
He shook his head despondently.
"And it will be a harder life for us lowly creatures, yet further down the food chain."

"So you seek to disrupt the natural order of things?" Charles asked.

Norman smiled and shook his head,
"No," he said with a forced chuckle. "T'would be a foolish man who would take on the might of the West single-handed. I don't even think my beloved brother would support me in such an endeavour."
His brow furrowed.
"But to see what is transpiring as 'the natural order' is entirely wrong. Whilst I would not act alone, I would act with friends. Were one-hundred-thousand discontented men to ride on the West, I would happily join their ranks." A look in his eyes screams sincerety.

"Would you act with your brother's blessing?" Charles asked.

"Under those particular circumstances, yes."
He licked his lips.
"In fact, I am sure he would be leading the charge."
