Dustin having only just returned to the party nodded. "Okay with me, Domeric." Never one for pleasantries he continued on, "I guess I'd better try to get some sleep then. Stay vigilant, Flint."

As the others went to bed, Flint stomped his feet to stay warm, and did a walk of their small camp's perimeter to get the lay of things. And then he waited and watched.

The night passed uneventfully, as did the next night as well. They traveled catiuosly through the cold terrian looking for any sign of the wildlings. Finally, on the third day, the group stops, as they spot several plumes of smoke riding into the sky.
The wooded terrian makes things hard to see, but the plumes definately are on the far side of a wooded hill that blocks their path to the north.

"Looks like it's quite a few of them," Walton said, nodding at the smoke plumes, left hand grasping his sword hilt. "What's the plan?"

"You can put that sword away for starters," Domeric replied, "They'll cut us down like dogs if we go in there steel slashing. We need to creep up and see what we can see first."

"Just makes me feel safer," Walton replied, his hand moving to hover a few inches away from the hilt. "I saw we find cover whilst two of us take a look."

"Fair enough, Come with me Bolton, and we'll spy what we's can spy." Domeric suggested. He was kin to Bolton, through his mother, and he was as good a man to have beside as any, as far as Domeric knew.

Walton nodded and quietly climbed from his horse. He looked to the hill from behind which the smoke was coming from and then to Domeric, signalling him to lead the way.

Domeric did as Bolton bid, and as they got closer, he dropped prone, and crawled up over top to get a look at what was generating all the smoke, but no fire.

They could see they were at the top of a sheer cliff face. A small ravine sat below them, one of thise ravines that looked carved by giants with a single slash of a knife. And in the pit were five wooden huts, or what had been five wooden huts before being burned.

"Welp," Domeric said, "Some one came through here hard and fast."

Walton nodded, a worried look set on the huts. "Shall we search through 'em?"

"Best take care, but it makes sense to go closer and see what we can see," Domeric agreed.

Walton nodded and began climbing down the ravine, using the safest hand holds he could find.

Walton starts off well, but eventually his hand slips on a too smooth hand hold, and he falls twenty feet to the bottom. He comes down hard on his left leg, and gashes his face against the wall as he fell.
